“Last year was the first year in which a community schools program that we worked to bring to our district was implemented. It is in place at four elementary schools in our city. We shifted from advocating for these schools to adopt this nationally recognized and popular program, to doing the work to make it go. This involved hiring a community schools coordinator to oversee coordinators who the district hired at each of those four schools. We wrote grant applications to help fund that position for both the 2018-2019 and then the 2019-2020 school years.”

“In November of 2018, two changes were made. The first change creates a Student Services division position on our board in place of the previous position that was restricted to members of the administrative division. The second change means that the nomination period for all offices will now end on the final Tuesday in January. This amendment also means that people who are nominated will be required to confirm their acceptance of the nomination within seven days in order to be placed on the ballot.”
