“All members are veterans who have served in the us army, navy, marines, air force, coast guard or merchant marines and have been honorably discharged. Most new members are recruited by existing members. Some members request membership when they move into the area or leave the various services.”

“The executive board of directors and officers are elected annually by a quorum of all members at the may general meeting. An executive board committee submits a slate of officers as well as new board members to the membership. The floor is opened for additional nominations and a vote is held with a simple majority required for election to a one year term for officers and various terms for the executive board.”

“Major decisions such as a new building or changes to the by-laws are subject to the approval of a quorum of the membership with a simple majority. We are governed by the state and national departments of the american legion.”

“The annual tax return is reviewed by the finance officer and the finance committee which consists of members of the board of directors.”

“All governing documents and financial documents are available upon request by the membership or other interested parties. Non-members should make a written request and an appointment for a review. Potential conflicts of interest are reviewed by the executive board. We are governed by the north carolina american legion as well as the national american legion constitution and by-laws.”
