Care ring's physicians reach out (pro) provides access to comprehensive health care, including primary care, specialty care, labs, diagnostic tests and hospitalization. For every dollar invested in pro, the organization leverages $25 in donated care provided by approximately 1,600 volunteer physicians, dentists, nurses, and allied health professionals. For the year ended june 30, 2012, pro provided approximately $11.5 million in donated medical and dental services to 3,555 patients enrolled in the program.

Activity 3

Care ring's nurse-family partnership (nfp) program is an evidence-based, intensive nurse home-visitation program for first-time, low-income mothers in mecklenburg county. Validated by over thirty years of research, including multiple randomized-controlled trials, nfp is a proven model that breaks the cycle of poverty by improving pregnancy outcomes for mother and child, improving child health and development, and improving the economic self-sufficiency of the family. From the program's inception in december 2008 through the end of fiscal year 2012, nfp has served 294 first-time moms and 175 infants with intensive home visitation services. The majority of nfp clients have not completed high school at the time of enrollment. Statistics suggest these young women are at high risk of not completing school. Nationally, only 33% of teen mothers finish high school. However, mothers who enroll in the nfp stay in school. Seventy-seven percent of mothers enrolling without their high school diploma have graduated or are still attending high school at their child's first birthday. Of those who have finished high school by their child's first birthday, 36% are enrolled in post-secondary education.
