All new board members are required to review the conflict of interest policy when they are appointed. When each new outside contract is awarded, they are reviewed to verify that there are no potential conflicts of interest. In the event of a potential conflict of interest during the year, the board member with the potential conflict will recuse himself/herself from the discussion and vote.

The organization's board of directors reviews and determines the compensation of the ceo and other top management officials. The board uses industry salaries and a salary report from the north carolina center for non-profits to determine the appropriate compensation amounts. The audit committee receives the audit and presents it to the finance committee. Once the finance committee approves the audited financials, they go to the executive committee to review and approve. They are then presented to the full board. The process has not changed from the prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

Part X, Line 2:

The Agency is exempt from federal and state income taxes under Section 501 (c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and the applicable state tax statutes. In addition, the Agency qualifies for the charitable contributions deduction under Section 170(b)(1)(a) and has been qualified as an organization that is not a private foundation under Section 509(a)(2) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Management has evaluated the effect of the guidance provided by GAAP. Management believes that the Agency continues to satisfy the requirements of a tax-exempt organization at June 30, 2016. Management has evaluated all other tax positions that could have a significant effect on the financial statements, and determined, the Agency had no significant uncertain income tax positions at June 30, 2016.

IRS990/Desc0The Developing Opportunities for a Safe Environment (DOSE) Batterer's Intervention Program has been serving the Triangle community with the mission of "Fostering healthy behaviors and relationships through education and support," since 1990. DOSE is a 26-week, psycho-educational group program focused on behavioral education and modification for individuals who have been court-ordered to attend a Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP). In 2015, TFS launched its 12-week Anger Management program focused on learning behavioral modification techniques in a coed group setting to manage stress and anger, and to minimize the frequency of unhealthy anger responses.

Triangle Family Services accomplishes its mission of, "Building a Stronger Community by Strengthening the Family", through its three core program areas including, Family Safety, Financial Stability and Mental Health. Triangle Family Services has been a part of our community going on 80 years providing data-driven services directly to 5,000 families and community resources and referrals to an additional 8,000 families annually.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Financial Stability: In-depth financial coaching sessions are tailored to meet individual needs and can cover an array of topics, including budget management, credit repair, debt reduction, student loans, avoiding identity theft, bankruptcy, and savings strategies. TFS also offers a wide variety of financial education workshops. Certified financial and housing counselors assist clients in one-on-one and in a classroom setting sessions to review budgets, create action plans, and track progress against stated goals. Housing: Triangle Family Services provides housing assistance to community members in their transition from homelessness to safe, stable, and affordable housing through direct financial assistance, comprehensive case management, financial counseling, and educational classes. Services include emergency housing and eviction prevention, foreclosure prevention, and the Rental Assistance Housing program which serves individuals with chronic and severe mental illness with a history of experiencing homelessness. TFS holds the Wake County contract for Coordinate Intake providing resources and referrals to Wake County residents in housing crisis.
