Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 3

The university continues to phase out the adult continuing education program (included as a change in program services in 2013 form 990). Currently enrolled students continue to be allowed to finish the program they are currently enrolled in. New students are no longer being accepted. Expenses for this program service are no longer separately tracked since the budd campus where these program services were operated was sold in tax year 2013.

Form 990, Part IX, Line 11G

Services related to our outsourced dining contract with aramark are included in other services in the amount of $11,997,559. Services from budd group are also included in the amount of $3,446,441. We also have various other professional services of $3,395,934 shown in this line item.

Form 990, Part XI, Line 9

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Part III, Line 4

Schedule D, Part IV, Line 1B

Hpu allows the sga and panther club to keep money for their organizations in the university bank account.

Schedule D, Part IV, Line 2B

Hpu allows the sga and panther club to keep money that they have collected in a university controlled bank account.

Schedule D, Part V, Line 4

Endowment funds are used for the purpose stipulated by the individual donor(s) of the endowed funds. The majority of the university's endowment is for scholarships or professorships/chairs.

Schedule D, Part X, Line 2

It is the university's policy to evaluate all tax positions to identify any that may be considered uncertain. All identified material tax positions are assessed and measured by a "more-likely-than-not" threshold to determine if the tax position is uncertain and what, if any, the effect of the uncertain tax position may have on the consolidated financial statements. No material uncertain tax positions were identified for 2016 and 2015. Currently, the statute of limitations remains open subsequent to and including the year ended may 31, 2013; however, no examinations are in process. Any changes in the amount of a tax position, as well as related penalties and interest, will be recognized in the period the change occurs.
