Form 990, Part III, Line 4D: Other Program Services Description

OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Mayan Traditional Medicine - This project provides community education and awareness on the importance of Mayan Traditional Medicine in the Guatemalan healthcare system. Without such awareness it is at risk of being lost thereby decreasing healthcare access for large segments of the population. In Guatemala, there are two health systems available: the predominant official or formal system and Mayan Traditional Medicine (MTM). MTM is an ancient cultural and scientific form of integral medicine, healing practices, and social ceremonies. It has been handed down by indigenous community leaders for generation and remains an important healthcare option. Where still practiced, it is often the most affordable and accessible method of medical treatment and disease prevention. However, without recognition of the value of this form of healthcare it will disappear. The goal of this project is to educate communities and leaders on the role of MTM in the healthcare system as a whole. Without this recognition it may not survive and would leave even more of the population without access to viable healthcare. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: B4 Peace Community Projects - GRACE Cares believes it is important to promote arts and educations projects that develop individual and community awareness on the importance of peace starting within each individual. We help communities look at how they can bring peace to their lives through daily acts of kindness. Many communities, including ones GRACE is working in already, are being affected by violence. We have joined with Namaya Productions and formed the B4 Peace Initiative ( www.b4peace.net) to hold art installations, performances and peace art workshops. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Kali to Kali Project Improve the quality of life for rural Pakistani children by stressing the importance of education, providing access to information about good health care practices and mentoring. We will create an environment in which children can thrive and improve the curriculum. Parents as well as community leaders will be taught the importance of basic health care practices and clinics will be conducted to screen children. Children will be mentored through simple conversations so they understand the necessity of education in achieving personal goals.

It is the umbrella organization for a number of fantastic projects run by Ruben Ottenwalder and his team in Baitoa, Santiago, DR. Since 2006, GRACE Cares has worked with this community on several successful projects. These include a water project, community center, elder care home, school improvements, safe stoves, and an egg business.Hearts DR works on a variety of community improvement projects in the area around Baitoa. They provide necessities for children in the area and work on improving the schools. They build homes for the needy and are working on several economic development projects. IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0The Watha people of the Galana area (Tsavo, Kenya) are the last generation of their ethnicity to continue traditional, cultural practices which differentiate them from their neighbours. Relatively little has been documented about the Watha, yet to those who have heard of them they hold a near mythical status as mystic masters of the deep and wild places. Their tribe is referred to by many different names from different groups adding to their obscurity and mystery.We would like to privilege viewers and draw their attention by showing the world this unique culture, record their ways and tell their story for posterity in the short time left before they homogenise into greater society and their history is irretrievably lost forever. The Watha are not recognised officially as an Ethnic group by the Kenya government, but their traditional role in intertribal economics was established centuries ago. Their history as a people has many surprising twists and turns and yet with remarkable adaptability they have persisted, preserved and defined themselves. Their culture revolves around the elephant, which was traditionally a source of food, materials, trade items, a spiritual focal point and totem.Now disenfranchised from their lands and their specialist way of life (which is to hunt) made illegal they struggle to uphold their identity. Having trodden so lightly on the ever providing earth for so long they have left little tangible sign other than legend making it all too easy for their culture to slip away under the pressing weight of "progress. The film being used as a tool to gain awareness of the issues faced by the community, resulting in wider interest and further community projects.

We will create an environment in which children can thrive and improve the curriculum. Parents as well as community leaders will be taught the importance of basic health care practices and clinics will be conducted to screen children. Children will be mentored through simple conversations so they understand the necessity of education in achieving personal goals.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Mayan Traditional Medicine - This project provides community education and awareness on the importance of Mayan Traditional Medicine in the Guatemalan healthcare system. Without such awareness it is at risk of being lost thereby decreasing healthcare access for large segments of the population. In Guatemala, there are two health systems available: the predominant official or formal system and Mayan Traditional Medicine (MTM). MTM is an ancient cultural and scientific form of integral medicine, healing practices, and social ceremonies. It has been handed down by indigenous community leaders for generation and remains an important healthcare option. Where still practiced, it is often the most affordable and accessible method of medical treatment and disease prevention. However, without recognition of the value of this form of healthcare it will disappear. The goal of this project is to educate communities and leaders on the role of MTM in the healthcare system as a whole. Without this recognition it may not survive and would leave even more of the population without access to viable healthcare. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: B4 Peace Community Projects - GRACE Cares believes it is important to promote arts and educations projects that develop individual and community awareness on the importance of peace starting within each individual. We help communities look at how they can bring peace to their lives through daily acts of kindness. Many communities, including ones GRACE is working in already, are being affected by violence. We have joined with Namaya Productions and formed the B4 Peace Initiative ( www.b4peace.net) to hold art installations, performances and peace art workshops.
