Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

A draft of the return is provided to all board members prior to filing the return. The treasurer and the executive director are responsible for the detailed review of the form 990.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

It is the policy of one family that its associates (directors, including non-director members of committees with board-delegated powers, officers, and key employees) promptly and fully disclose any actual, apparent, or potential conflicts of interest, that no associate participate in any decision by one family in any matters in which he or she has a conflict of interest, that one family follow a disciplined, documented process in making decisions about such matters, and that one family comply with all applicable legal requirements relating to such matters. Upon election, hiring, or appointment, and annually thereafter, associates must complete an annual certification and disclosure statement in the form provided by one family. On this document, the associate must disclose all affiliations or other matters that could give rise to a conflict of interest and must certify his or her commitment to compliance with this policy. The associate should update this disclosure as appropriate. Associates have a continuing responsibility to review their business, personal, and philanthropic interests, and their family and other close relationships, for actual, apparent, or potential conflicts of interest.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

The board of directors approves the compensation for the executive director during the executive session of the board meeting(s). The proposed salary is compared to similar positions at similar types of organizations in massachusetts. Form 990, part vi, section b, line 15b: the organization did not compensate anyone else meeting the definition of an officer or key employee.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization's governing documents, conflict of interest and financial statements are made available to the public upon request and some of these are also available on the organization's website, and/or various other websites (i.e. State websites, guidestar, the giving common and charity navigator).

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0THROUGH CREDENTIAL TO CAREER COACHING (C2C), ONE FAMILY AIMS TO ADDRESS THE NEED HOMELESS AND AT-RISK FAMILIES HAVE FOR SOLID, UNBIASED ADVICE TO DETERMINE HOW TO BEST INCREASE EARNINGS AND ASSETS FOR THE FUTURE. C2C WORKS WITH HOMELESS AND LOW-INCOME PARENTS BEFORE THEY ENROLL IN COSTLY EDUCATION OR TRAINING PROGRAMS TO HELP THEM UNDERSTAND THE WAGES NEEDED TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILY, EXPLORE THEIR INTERESTS, AND IDENTIFY PATHWAYS TO ENTER IN-DEMAND, FAMILY-SUSTAINING CAREERS. TOGETHER, WE LOWER BARRIERS TO QUALITY JOBS, MINIMIZE DEBT, AND MAP OUT A PLAN TO LONG-TERM FINANCIAL SECURITY. C2C IS DELIVERED IN A 12-WEEK COHORT MODEL, ALTERNATING BETWEEN GROUP WORKSHOPS AND INDIVIDUAL COACHING. IN ITS FIRST YEAR, THE PROGRAM SERVED 51 PARTICIPANTS AND THE INITIAL RESULTS WERE VERY POSITIVE.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0ONE FAMILY WORKS TO CHANGE THE RESPONSE OF GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE AGENCIES FROM PROVIDING SHELTER TO PREVENTING HOMELESSNESS AND CREATING PATHWAYS FOR FAMILIES TO AFFORD STABLE HOUSING. OUR GOAL IS TO IDENTIFY INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS IN BOTH THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS TO THE ON-GOING CRISIS OF FAMILY HOMELESSNESS IN OUR STATE. WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WHO SHARE OUR PHILOSOPHY TO ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF APPROACHES TO FAMILY HOMELESSNESS THAT BRIDGE THE SILOS BETWEEN HOUSING, EDUCATION, AND EMPLOYMENT, AN APPROACH THAT EMPOWERS FAMILIES TO INCREASE EARNINGS, BUILD ASSETS, SECURE HOUSING, AND REACH ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE.
