Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Penelope fireman and adam rogers, two members of the board of directors, are brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

A draft of the return is provided to all board members prior to filing the return. The treasurer and the executive director are responsible for the detailed review of the form 990.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

One family's conflict of interest policy covers all directors, advisors and staff (collectively "interested persons"). All such interested persons shall communicate fully with the executive director regarding any affiliations that they (or their family members) may have with current or potential vendors, service providers or grantees and any other relationship or commitment that could affect, or be seen to affect, the impartial fulfillment of their roles in the affairs of one family. Generally, directors, advisors and the executive director should disclose potential conflicts to the full board or chairman of the board, and staff should make such disclosures to the executive director. In all situations calling for the disclosure of the potential conflicts, the director, advisor or staff member should abstain from voting or otherwise participating in the decision, other than by providing information requested by the disinterested decision makers. The disclosure and the abstention are formally noted in the board minutes (in the case of directors) or in the docket memo, minutes or other appropriate written record (in the case of staff). Additionally, upon their appointment (and annually thereafter) all such interested parties are required to sign an acknowledgement that they have received a copy of the conflict of interest policy, have read it, understand it, and agree to comply with it, and also provide a list of entities in which they (or their family members) have a substantial involvement or economic interest in, which do or may do business with one family.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

The board of directors approves the compensation for the executive director during the executive session of the board meeting(s). The proposed salary is compared to similar positions at similar types of organizations in massachusetts. This process was last undertaken in april of 2014 to approve an increase in the executive director's salary. Form 990, part vi, section b, line 15b: the organization did not compensate anyone else meeting the definition of an officer or key employee.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization's governing documents, conflict of interest and financial statements are made available to the public upon request and some of these are also available on the organization's website, and/or various other websites (i.e. State websites, guidestar, the giving common and charity navigator).

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0ONE FAMILY WORKS TO CHANGE THE RESPONSE OF GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE AGENCIES FROM PROVIDING SHELTER TO PREVENTING HOMELESSNESS AND CREATING PATHWAYS FOR FAMILIES TO AFFORD STABLE HOUSING. OUR GOAL IS TO IDENTIFY INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS IN BOTH THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS TO THE ON-GOING CRISIS OF FAMILY HOMELESSNESS IN OUR STATE. WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON A RESEARCH AGENDA AND DEVELOPING A NETWORK OF LIKE-MINDED ORGANIZATIONS TO BOTH SHARE KNOWLEDGE AND AMPLIFY IMPACT.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/ExpenseAmt062414
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0IN 2014, ONE FAMILY WAS SELECTED AS A SERVICE PROVIDER FOR A NEW STATE PROGRAM (MASSACHUSETTS LEARNING, EMPLOYMENT AND ASSET PROGRAM) TO PILOT A MODEL OF OUR CREDENTIAL TO CAREER COACHING PROGRAM. WORKING WITH THE SOMERVILLE HOUSING AUTHORITY AS THE LEAD AGENCY, ONE FAMILY PROVIDES COACHING TO RESIDENTS OF PUBLIC HOUSING TO HELP THEM ASSESS THEIR EXISTING SKILLS AND CREDENTIALS, UNDERSTAND THE EARNINGS NEEDED TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILY AND IDENTIFY POTENTIAL CAREERS THAT COULD PROVIDE THOSE EARNINGS, DETERMINE THE ADDITIONAL CREDENTIALS AND/OR EXPERIENCE NEEDED TO ENTER A FAMILY-SUSTAINING CAREER AND THE ASSOCIATED COSTS, AND DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN TO REACH THEIR CAREER GOAL. ONE FAMILY PLANS TO EXPAND THIS PROGRAM TO ADDITIONAL SITES IN COMING YEARS.
