Mission and Program Overview

Mission

NAFA is exclusively dedicated to promoting the awareness and understanding of fixed income and deferred annuities through the education of policymakers, journalists, consumers, and the industry.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Completed three CE courses for Producer Education Held IMO Conference with program geared toward IMO issues and initiatives. 2011 Meeting is already scheduled. Second annual IMO Summit enjoyed over 100 IMOs in attendance and generated 45% revenue over 2009 conference. Established Premier Partner update conference calls to inform members about current regulatory and other market developments and to allow for a question and answer session. Created Education Committee Strategic plan to be executed in 2010 providing ongoing conferences, web-based training, and educational publications for IMOs to utilize for their producers.
Activity 3
NAFA spent much time working with the NAIC A Committee on the Suitability and Disclosure Models. NAFA's goals have always included education and promoting a safe and informed purchasing environment for knowledge-empowered consumers. To that end, NAFA contributed to every step of the NAIC's effort to expand the Annuity Suitability and Disclosure Models for all annuities and key initiatives targeted by the NAIC. Another key government relations focus was the Source of Funds issue. NAFA responded to a request from Iowa's Deputy Commissioner, Jim Mumford, to draft a guidance memo on insurance-only advice to help insurance producers and regulators understand what constitutes insurance advice versus investment advice. NAFA traveled to Des Moines often with members of the Source of Funds Working Group to work through the various iterations of the draft language and is looking forward to a final document in early 2011. Deputy Commissioner Mumford informed NAFA that it is his intent to issue an Iowa Guidance Memo using the final document, which includes NAFA's input, and to engage with FINRA to advance the discussion.

IRS990/ActivityOther/Description1SuccessCE and NAFA introduced a cost-effective and compliant product-specific training, the NAFA PST Solution, platform to its carrier members in November 2010. We are pleased to have five of our carrier members already signed on and hope to add more as they see the ease and effectiveness of tracking and verifying not just the Suitability Model's product-sprecific training but also the 4-Hour Annuity Material Elements Course developed by NAFA and SuccessCE.

NAFA will coordinate the site construction and promotion with the public relations campaign to ensure a seemless launch and work with industry leaders like Sheryl Moore, annuityspecs.com and Jack Marrion, the Advantage Compendium, for site content. The site will be available Spring/Summer 2011.
