“From the employee handbook: establishment of salary & bonuses for executive director it is the task of the executive committee to conduct an annual review of the executive director's performance and at that time also to review the executive director's compensation. The executive committee may then at its discretion recommend, for approval by the full board, a salary adjustment, bonus or extra paid time off, taking into account the executive director's performance, elizabeth river project's salary scale, elizabeth river project's financial conditions and budget constraints. In considering compensation options, the committee may elect to discuss with the executive director which would be most meaningful to him or her. Periodic reviews are performed to determine compensation paid for similar positions, using available data for similar positions in similar non-profit organizations. In 2019, a review was performed for all regular staff positions, researching and compiling data from several sources. Based on the results, staff recommended, and the board approved, market adjustments to compensation for specific (not all) employees. Employees are compensated based on market analysis of similar positions. No employee compensation is tied to specific benchmarks such as fundraising or other targets.”
