“Publications and online content: isle journal: isle: interdisciplinary studies in literature and environment is the official journal of asle, published quarterly in a digital format. Distribution is primarily to asle members (est. 1000) and institutional subscribers such as libraries via our publisher oxford university press (oup). In addition, oup has a large free access program for developing countries. Isle content is peer reviewed, and includes both scholarly articles in ecocriticism and creative works of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry, as well as book reviews. Asle news: the association produces a variety of articles on the activities of our organization and our members every year. We compile them in a quarterly e-newsletter, which is sent to members and subscribers (approx. 4800 in total) via constant contact; stories are posted at the website on the asle news, as well as featured teaching and research pages. Asle website: the association's website (www.asle.org) aims to be a rich resource in the burgeoning field of environmental humanities. There are articles on innovative teaching models, featured research on projects or ideas across a broad range of arts and sciences, scholar of the month, a teaching resources database, directory of schools with programs focused in the environmental humanities, links and connections to various online journals and portals, and introductory articles and materials on the field. Member publications are posted to the member bookshelf. Asle ecocast: once a month, hosts interview a guest or guests on a current topic and their work in the field of environmental humanities. “Conferences and virtual events: off-year symposium: from may 16-19, 2024, asle held a symposium at the university of north florida. "green fire: energy stories beyond extraction" attracted 88 participants and explored different ways of understanding energy and being in the world. The event featured keynote talks, concurrent panels, and field excursions. Asle supported the event with a 2000 seed grant, a submission and registration platform, and administrative assistance. Biennial conference: planning and expenses for the 2025 conference were well underway in 2024. The call for papers was issued, the submission platform was set up and launched, and a deposit to the host venue, the university of maryland, was made. Spotlight program asle spotlight is a program founded in 2021 to feature the new work of our members in environmental arts and humanities. In 2024 there were two episodes (with planning taking place for two more in early 2025), each featuring four guests and two hosts, and held live via zoom. The episodes were also recorded for viewing by those who could not attend and posted on our website. Contingent and independent scholar online speaker series to amplify the scholarship, teaching, and activism that contingent faculty and independent scholars bring to our community, asle hosted three roundtables on public humanities by and for contingent and independent scholars in 2024. The topics were public humanities, networking, and unionizing and funding strategies.”
“Grants and awards: subvention and translation grants asle offers grants to assist our members with funding for their innovative projects and publications. In 2024, five asle member projects were awarded grants. We funded two translation grants, which support the translation of previously published works in ecocriticism with the goal of expanding access to crucial scholarship and literature across cultures and continents. We also funded three subvention grants to support innovative projects in ecocriticism and the environmental humanities. Asle also issued two in-kind international membership grants, which provide two years of asle membership to scholars outside north america who are without access to professional development funding.”

BIENNIAL CONFERENCE: PLANNING AND EXPENSES FOR THE 2025 CONFERENCE WERE WELL UNDERWAY IN 2024. THE CALL FOR PAPERS WAS ISSUED, THE SUBMISSION PLATFORM WAS SET UP AND LAUNCHED, AND A DEPOSIT TO THE HOST VENUE, THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, WAS MADE. SPOTLIGHT PROGRAM ASLE SPOTLIGHT IS A PROGRAM FOUNDED IN 2021 TO FEATURE THE NEW WORK OF OUR MEMBERS IN ENVIRONMENTAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES. IN 2024 THERE WERE TWO EPISODES (WITH PLANNING TAKING PLACE FOR TWO MORE IN EARLY 2025), EACH FEATURING FOUR GUESTS AND TWO HOSTS, AND HELD LIVE VIA ZOOM. THE EPISODES WERE ALSO RECORDED FOR VIEWING BY THOSE WHO COULD NOT ATTEND AND POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE. CONTINGENT AND INDEPENDENT SCHOLAR ONLINE SPEAKER SERIES TO AMPLIFY THE SCHOLARSHIP, TEACHING, AND ACTIVISM THAT CONTINGENT FACULTY AND INDEPENDENT SCHOLARS BRING TO OUR COMMUNITY, ASLE HOSTED THREE ROUNDTABLES ON PUBLIC HUMANITIES BY AND FOR CONTINGENT AND INDEPENDENT SCHOLARS IN 2024.
