A copy of Form 990 and supporting schedules are emailed to each board member for his or her review, comments, and approval.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12C

Each member of the Board completes and signs a Conflict of Interest questionnaire annually.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15

Each voting member of the Board evaluates the Executive Director individually by answering a questionnaire developed by the Human Resources Committee. The results of the evaluation are discussed at the annual face-to-face board meeting. Subsequently, the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board discusses the results of the evaluation with the Executive Director. The Board then sets the Executive Director's compensation for the next year based on: (1) the Executive Director's performance, as evaluated by the Board, and (2) the Board's review of compensation data for Executive Directors at comparable organizations as reported by publicly available compensation surveys. The Board's deliberations and decisions concerning the Executive Director's compensation are documented pursuant to the Foundation's policies. The Executive Director performs annual evaluations of the Foundation employees that report directly to him.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19

The Foundation makes its financial information available to the public electronically by publishing its Form 990 filing to Guidestar.org each year. The Foundation does not make its governing documents or its conflict of interest policy available to the public, though its Articles of Incorporation are available upon request to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Financial Statement Notes

The Melton Foundation is exempt from income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is classified as an organization other than a private foundation under 509(a)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation adopted the provisions in FASB ASC 740-10.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0The Melton Foundation conducts events worldwide and primarily in the countries where we have partner universities: the United States, Ghana, Chile, China, Germany, and India. Our annual Global Citizenship Conference takes place annually, and rotates to supported university every five years. We hold "Senior Fellow" (alumni) events as well as training events. New Fellows take part in a three-day workshop each March in Germany. The Global Citizenship Conference is a weeklong event with focus on learning and community impact. It is hosted by one of our partner universities and carries over many of the successful learning and team-building features of 20 years of Symposia history. The Melton Foundation also hosts 3-4 day workshops that include site visits and opportunities for Melton Fellows to network with each other and outside experts and local hosts, as well as a weeklong service project called the "Deep Dive" with a team of Melton Fellows in collaboration with a partner organization.
