The mission of sugar plum bakery, inc., a nonprofit organization, is to serve the needs of individuals with disabilities through employment, training and education. Sugar plum promotes the integration of persons with developmental disabilities into society by helping them become independent and evolve into working contributing members of our communities.

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

The mission of sugar plum bakery, inc., a nonprofit organization, is to serve the needs of individuals with disabilities through employment, training and education. Sugar plum promotes the integration of persons with developmental disabilities into society by helping them become independent and evolve into working contributing members of our communities.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Individuals are encouraged to work as independently as possible. Individuals receiving dars funding work with a job specialist employed by sugar plum bakery to achieve their employment goals. Sugar plum bakery through its partnership with dars provides employment training services in the bakery and in the community. A sugar plum bakery job specialist works one on one with individuals referred by dars. The job specialist assists individuals with disabilities by providing situational assessments; job development, placement and training and long term follow along services. The individuals are employees of their place of employment and must adhere to the standards of the business.

Accumulated funds are for the specific benefit of the corporation. Although the principal amount invested is available for distribution to the corporation, the corporation's board of directors intends that the fund's principal assets be held by the corporation in perpetuity. The investment strategy is designed to protect the endowment's capacity to sustain growth in support of the corporation's needs as well as growth in value.

INDIVIDUALS QUALIFYING FOR WAIVER SERVICES (BUILDING INDEPENDENCE WAIVER, FAMILY AND INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT WAIVER, AND COMMUNITY LIVING WAIVER) PARTICIPATE IN GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT SERVICES AND ARE EMPLOYEES OF THE BAKERY. JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: PRODUCTION TASKS, WASHING DISHES, FOLDING BOXES, OFFICE TASKS AND CLEANING. INDIVIDUALS WORK WITH A JOB COACH TO ENSURE QUALITY STANDARDS ARE MAINTAINED. THE JOB COACH ASSISTS INDIVIDUALS IN SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING TASKS AS NEEDED. INDIVIDUALS ARE ENCOURAGED TO WORK AS INDEPENDENTLY AS POSSIBLE. INDIVIDUALS RECEIVING DARS FUNDING WORK WITH A JOB SPECIALIST EMPLOYED BY SUGAR PLUM BAKERY TO ACHIEVE THEIR EMPLOYMENT GOALS. SUGAR PLUM BAKERY THROUGH ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH DARS PROVIDES EMPLOYMENT TRAINING SERVICES IN THE BAKERY AND IN THE COMMUNITY. A SUGAR PLUM BAKERY JOB SPECIALIST WORKS ONE ON ONE WITH INDIVIDUALS REFERRED BY DARS. THE JOB SPECIALIST ASSISTS INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES BY PROVIDING SITUATIONAL ASSESSMENTS; JOB DEVELOPMENT, PLACEMENT AND TRAINING AND LONG TERM FOLLOW ALONG SERVICES. THE INDIVIDUALS ARE EMPLOYEES OF THEIR PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT AND MUST ADHERE TO THE STANDARDS OF THE BUSINESS.
