Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The brcc educational foundation builds community relationships and secures resources to strengthen the programs and services of blue ridge community college. Current levels of funding are not sufficient to keep pace with the challenges of meeting brcc's diverse student needs and addressing workforce development services and programs. Additionally, traditional funding sources are not expected to grow in proportion to brcc's enrollment. To meet the community's increasing needs for programs, services, facilities, and scholarships, private funds are necessary. Funds raised by the brcc educational foundation represent the difference between adequacy, as provided by traditional sources of funding, and excellence, that only private investment can provide.

The foundation provides grants for scholarships and other support to blue ridge community college.

IRS990/Desc0DURING THE 2023-24 ACADEMIC YEAR, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED 134 NAMED SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS TOTALING $513,929 TO 427 DESERVING STUDENTS. THE MAJORITY OF THESE AWARDS WERE BASED ON FINANCIAL NEED. WHILE A DEGREE AT BLUE RIDGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE APPEARS AFFORDABLE, ESPECIALLY COMPARED TO FOUR-YEAR INSTITUTIONS, IT IS BEYOND THE MEANS OF MANY STUDENTS AND FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY. THESE SCHOLARSHIPS WERE PROVIDED TO STUDENTS IN BOTH CREDIT AND NON-CREDIT PROGRAMS. AMONG THEM WERE AWARDS FOR PARTICIPANTS IN BLUE RIDGE PROMISE, A BRIDGE PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS INTERESTED IN ATTENDING BRCC AFTER GRADUATION. IN ADDITION, SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS THAT PROVIDED A PATHWAY TO ENROLL IN WORKFORCE COURSES AND RECEIVE CREDENTIALS IN CAREERS SUCH AS PHLEBOTOMY, WELDING, COMMERCIAL DRIVING, FORKLIFT OPERATION, CERTIFIED CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTING, AND EKG TECH. EVERY ONE OF THESE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS GAVE STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ACHIEVE THEIR CAREER AND LIFE GOALS AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THEIR FAMILIES AND THE COMMUNITIES IN WHICH THEY LIVE AND WORK.

IRS990/MissionDesc0THE BRCC EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION BUILDS COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS AND SECURES RESOURCES TO STRENGTHEN THE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES OF BLUE RIDGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE. THE COLLEGE'S IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY IS PROFOUND, PROVIDING THE PATHWAY TO SUCCESS FOR STUDENTS AND LOCAL EMPLOYERS. CURRENT STATE AND LOCAL APPROPRIATIONS PROVIDE FUNDING FOR ONLY THE BASIC OPERATIONS OF THE COLLEGE AND ARE NOT SUFFICIENT TO KEEP PACE WITH THE CHALLENGES OF MEETING BRCC'S DIVERSE STUDENT NEEDS AND ADDRESSING WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SERVICES AND PROGRAMS.
