Vhqc's mission is to create solutions that make a measurable difference on individual and community health.
Vhqc serves as an advocate for medicare beneficiaries (see schedule o for continuation) (continued) and improves the quality of healthcare received by consumers through leading national quality initiatives for physicans' offices, hospitals, home health agencies and nursing homes in maryland and virginia. Vhqc also performs health care related consulting services around the support of delivering quality healthcare in virginia through the use of electronic health records. Vhqc provides medical case review for a variety of states' bureaus of insurance and private companies to determine the appropriateness of care for beneficiaries of health plans within those states or offered by those companies.

“Vhqc provides annual training to the board and staff and then asks them to verify that they indeed have no conflicts. In the event of a conflict, a mitigation plan is put into effect. Either the board member recuses himself from voting on any related matter or in the case of an employee, other employees or board members would step in to oversee the matter.”
“The executive compensation committee (all independent board members) of the board reviews the presidents/ceo's compensation. They meet annually and review his performance based on goals set at the beginning of the year and then determine his raise, if any, for the year and what bonus, if any, he should receive. They consider the compensation paid to presidents and ceos of other similar nonprofit organizations. Vhqc participates in a quality improvement organization (qio) survey of salaries where over 25 similar companies participate and receive access to regional salary information and averages across the industry. The organization also participates in the greater richmond compensation survey. This information is used to ensure that the salaries paid to officers and all employees are reasonable. Decisions are documented by the executive compensation committee by way of a performance evaluation put in the president's personnel file. The chief financial officer also gets written correspondence from the executive compensation committee with their decisions which are filed with the payroll records. All other employees' performance evaluations are reviewed annually by human resources and compared to their job description and goals that were set at the beginning of the year. The organization also considers the merit budget data published by national and local compensation resources.”

THROUGH A DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES PROGRAM, VHQC FOSTERS IMPLEMENTATION OF ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS IN PHYSICAN PRIMARY CARE PRACTICES TO IMPROVE PATIENT SAFETY THROUGH ERROR REDUCTION, IMPROVED CARE COORDINATION AMONG PROVIDERS CONSULTING ON THE SAME PATIENT, ELECTRONIC PRESCRIBING OF DRUGS, AUTOMATED ALERTS REGARDING DRUG INTERACTIONS, BETTER FOLLOW-UP CARE FOR THOSE PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC DISEASES, AND OTHER SAFETY INITIATIVES. DURING FISCAL YEAR 2014, VHQC RECEIVED $215,554 OF DONATED SERVICES FROM PHYSICIANS AND THEIR STAFF AS PART OF A MATCHING REQUIREMENT. IN A RELATED CONTRACT WITH VIRGINIA'S DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES, VHQC ALSO WORKS WITH SPECIALISTS. |
