Activity 2

Summer games: our largest statewide competition, is nothing short of legendary thanks to the overwhelming support of more than 3,000 local volunteers who brave the summer heat to assist more than 1,300 special olympics virginia athletes each june in richmond, va. Athletes come from all corners of the state to compete in swimming, softball, track & field, bowling, powerlifting and tennis. This event also features over 2,000 enthusiastic fans in the stands thanks to our volunteer to cheer campaign, as well as our annual healthy athletes expo, where athletes can receive free vision, hearing, dental and fitness screenings.

Activity 3

Fall championships: thousands of athletes, coaches, families and volunteers come together for a weekend of memorable fun during the fall championships each november in virginia beach. More than 1,000 athletes wrap up the fall sports season as they go for the gold in roller skating, bowling, volleyball, golf, soccer and bocce. Don't-miss-moments include a magical opening ceremony, followed by an evening of music and games at the victory dance and olympic town festival. And thanks to our volunteer to cheer initiative, this event continues to grow in size and popularity, with more than 1,000 local community members filling the stands with cheers in 2012.
