Community Computing: Community Computing efforts include establishing a shared-service platform that enables the delivery of health and educational content, technology tools and software applications over our broadband network to more than 600 schools. Our community educational and internship programs and partnerships are designed to enhance learning experiences and outcomes for up to 700,000 preK-12 students. Our collaborations with other community-based health care nonprofit and community health organizations align with the National Health Information Network. They are focused on the creation, sharing and delivery of health information and e-medical records to improve the quality of our health care system and address the needs of undersevered health care and safety-net providers. Also included in Community Computing is Connect Your Community, a federally funded initiative that provides broadband training, equipment and support for 26,000 low-income individuals and their households in seven separate communities: Cleveland; Akron; Appalachian Ohio; Detroit; Lexington, KY; Manatee County, FL.; and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, NC. Connect Your Community participants gain and upgrade computer skills through free training, can equip their homes with extremely affordable computers, have the opportunity to gain free or very affordable high-speed Internet access, and can take advantage of one-on-one assistance to find the online resources they need most.
