“f990 III 1 The Center for Research in Computational Linguistics was incorporated as CRCL Inc in 2003 for educational purposes under the California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law. CRCL's mission is to promote research and study of modern and historical languages, focusing on Southeast Asia, and helping to fill the gap between the emerging discipline of computational linguistics, and the traditional methods of the Southeast Asian linguistics / languages community. Since its founding CRCL has pursued a successful program of development and dissemination of resources and methods with the support and collaboration of colleagues in the US Southeast Asian Studies National Resource Centers, the Coalition of Teachers of Southeast Asian Languages, the Committee on Research Materials on Southeast Asia, American Councils for International Education, the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (University of Wisconsin-Madison), as well as international collaborations that include SOAS (London), and the University of Edinburgh (Scotland). CRCL's defining projects include the Southeast Asian Languages (Sealang) Library, the Sealang Lab, and the Mon-Khmer Languages Project. They have been funded through competitive grant programs established by the US Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Security Education Program. All projects have focused on less commonly taught languages, work with non-roman scripts, and rely in equal measure on expertise in linguistic analysis, and development of innovative computational methods. All results, including dictionaries, text corpora, and aligned bitext corpora for dozens of Southeast Asian languages, and extensive lexical and analytical resources for comparative Austroasiatic linguistics, are produced for the public good, and are freely available online for research and reference use. CRCL does not carry website advertising, or sell or license any goods, data, or services. CRCL outreach provides a range of free services to the scholarly / linguistics community. We maintain the websites of several long-established journals and conferences, including the Mon-Khmer Studies Journal, the Southeast Asian Linguistics Society, the Northeast Indian Linguistics Society and the International Conference on Austroasiatic Linguistics, and manage the SEALANG-L mailing list, online since 1994. CRCL's Southeast Asian Linguistics Archives (SEAlang SALA) provides open access to many thousands of articles not available elsewhere, including MKSJ, JSEALS, LTBA (Linguistics of the Tibeto-Burman Area), NUSA (Linquistic Studies of Indonesian Languages), as well as many conference series; in addition, we have made the first 50 years of Pacific Linguistics publications freely available. CRCL takes pride in assisting senior scholars in preparing dictionaries for publication, in scanning and creating online archives for unpublished fieldnotes, and in providing technical assistance in making electronic data available online.”
