FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

The community media center provides carroll county residents and organizations with services, tools, training, and access to innovative digital technologies that engage, inform, and connect them to their community.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Filled the studio to attend the event designed to celebrate community producers and showcase local video production talents. Dozens of entries were received and reviewed by a panel of independent judges. Awards were presented in over 10 categories ranging from best local documentary, to best vodcast. In fy 2017, the cmc produced and aired live election forums for carroll county board of education and local municipal elections as a way to provide an equal platform to all registered candidates and provide citizens with information about candidates seeking public office in upcoming elections. In addition to the forums, all registered candidates were offered the opportunity to record a video profile to share their views on important local topics. As part of the carroll county history project, the cmc produced the documentary: the rock of our ancestors. The program explores the history, and challenges faced by small, local african-american churches. And reveals the closing of a church can threaten the heritage and the identity of an entire community. A premiere showing of the program was held at carroll arts center. The cmc helped celebrate a 150-year tradition by providing coverage of the westminster memorial day parade and observance. Cmc's coverage was broadcast live online, as well as on channel 19. In addition, channel 19 featured an honor roll of names of the local men and women who gave their lives in vietnam and the korean conflict. The cmc continued it support of the carroll county state's attorney's efforts to reach carroll county students with important messages about drugs and violence. Cmc's production department provided av support and produced the two videos, "don't believe the lie" a video about drug use & refusal skills and "s.o.s" a program dramatizing the trigger signs for unhealthy relationships. The videos are used at high school and middle school presentations throughout the county. The media center also streamed live coverage from the drug overdose and prevention vigil. Cmc's online presence continues to grow at a steady pace. Visits to cmc's web page were up 19% from fy 16 and facebook 'likes' grew by 32%. Total number of hours viewers watched live streaming coverage on channel 19 and 23 combined increased by 116%. In addition, total number of views of our programming on youtube grew by 251%.
