IRS990/Desc0Online Wellness Program:During 2013, Sister to Sister began revamping its online wellness program, Smart for the Heart, to become a user-friendly, motivational, and mobile-enabled cardiovascular disease prevention program. The tool will be launched in both English and Spanish. It includes a scientifically-based cardiac assessment and a personalized guide to a heart healthy lifestyle. The revamping includes a robust social networking component to create an ongoing support community for users and a built-in platform for increased awareness. Participants who complete the assessment will receive immediate, personalized recommendations for lifestyle changes based on their responses. The data gathered from the assessment is HIPPA compliant and can be used for research by Sister to Sister's hospital partners and the cardiovascular community. Smart for the Heart can be reached through www.sistertosister.org.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0International:Sister to Sister's International Program was established to address the alarming epidemic of cardiovascular disease in women around the world. The program has supported international exchange programs for cardiologists, networking opportunities for cardiologists, and events to promote awareness of heart disease prevention in women as well as education about its risk factors. During 2013, STS translated a key educational tool about the Signs of a Heart Attack into nine languages, including Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Hebrew and Hungarian. The Russian, Arabic and Hebrew versions were translated by the Director of the Cardiovascular Wellness Institute for Women at Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem, one of our hospital partners. Hadassah will use these materials on its website and at events throughout its region. The translated infographics can be found at http://www.sistertosister.org/international/international-materials. In addition, Sister to Sister joined its long-standing hospital partner, Brigham and Women's Hospital, in the Women's International Forum lecture series on Wednesday, April 24th, 2013 at the United Nations headquarters, New York City. Dr. Elizabeth G. Nabel, M.D., President, Brigham and Women's Hospital, addressed the distinguished members of the Women's International Forum with a lecture, "Women and Heart Disease - Working Together on Global Challenges and Progress". As part of our International Programs, Sister to Sister facilitated relationships between diplomatic, governmental and medical partners. Our aim is to increase awareness at the United Nations and in the larger international community regarding the global concern for women and heart disease.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Capitol Hill Programs:Sister to Sister's Capitol Hill Program was established in 2002 to raise awareness in the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate that heart disease is the leading cause of death among both men and women. The program's initiatives include free screenings and educational events. Over 3,500 legislators and staff members have learned their personal risk for heart disease, and the steps that can be taken to prevent it. In addition to the screenings offered through Sister to Sister's Capitol Hill Program, the Foundation provides education to members and staff with an emphasis on preventing heart disease, recognizing heart attack signs and symptoms for women, understanding personal risk for heart disease and reducing risk through healthy lifestyle choices. Attendees at the events are offered the chance to ask questions of all the speakers and to speak one-on-one with a featured cardiologist. In 2013, Sister to Sister was joined by George Washington University Hospital, which served for the fifth year as a sponsor of both programs, and provided several cardiologists and nurses to counsel the attendees who learned that they may at-risk for heart disease.

With daily tips, interactive tools, a screening locator, heart-healthy recipes, the Sister to Sister website provides education and support for women across the country as they seek to improve and maintain their heart health. In 2012, Sister to Sister revamped its entire website, www.sistertosister.org and launched myHeartHealth, a new web portal found at www.sistertosister.org/myhearthealth. It is a free emporium of information comprised of an online wellness program and heart risk assessment tools, blogs from dozens of women about their personal health journeys, diet and exercise tips, opportunities to connect with leading health experts, a database of heart healthy recipes and much, much more. In 2013, the blogger program expanded to include syndicated content from 400 international bloggers. In 2013, Sister to Sister's infographic, Signs of a Heart Attack for Women, was showcased at the 2013 National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing and Media on August 20-22, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia. STS also developed a new infographic in 2013 called "5 Questions to Ask Your Provider to Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease". It can be found at http://www.sistertosister.org/heart-facts/five-questions-ask-your-doctor.

This report was released nationwide to the Million Hearts partner network in September 2013. STS was the only nonprofit to be featured in the report. Million Hearts is a national initiative of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control. During 2013, Sister to Sister continued its partnership with Hadassah, The Women's Zionist Organization of America, Inc., a volunteer organization that works to enhance the health of people worldwide through its support of medical care and research. Hadassah empowers its members and supporters, as well as youth in Israel and America through opportunities for personal growth, education, advocacy and Jewish continuity. Sister to Sister and Hadassah collaborated on a joint heart disease prevention and education program called Every Beat Counts, which is available to Hadassah's 330,000 members to use as a tool kit in the creation of heart health awareness events. Our online wellness program, Smart for the Heart, is being promoted by the Hadassah organization to its members as a valuable tool to assess and monitor cardiovascular health.Sister to Sister is also working closely with the Cardiovascular Wellness Institute for Women at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem, which have supported Sister to Sister by translating our infographic into Hebrew, Arabic and Russian. The infographic will be distributed in Israel through their website, hospital and live community screening events. Hadassah also provided content input and support for the creation of our "5 Questions to Ask Your Doctor" infographic. We will co-promote each other's works and accomplishments through websites and social media.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc4Hospital Partnerships:Sister to Sister has built on its long-term partnership with Brigham & Women's Hospital by adding new hospital partnerships. In 2012-13 we developed partnerships with the Barbara Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease in Baltimore, and the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem. Through formal partnerships with these medical partners, Sister to Sister provides opportunities for engagement, educational webinars and up-to-date cardiovascular information and content for the website, social media and newsletters.
