Activity 2

Effective global aid: the organization is working to make united states foreign assistance and policies more efficient and effective, address gender inequality and foster women and girl's empowerment by meaningfully integrating gender and incorporating participatory processes. More recently, the organization celebrated the release of the united states agency for international development (usaid)'s policy for gender equality and female empowerment, which makes advancing women and girls central to united states foreign assistance.since the release of usaid's policy for gender equality and female empowerment in early 2012, the organization shifted its focus to ensure that the policy results in positive impacts for millions of women and girls around the world. Following its release, the organization issued an analysis of the policy, underscoring its many strengths and identifying gaps that should be addressed by the agency. The organization mobilized new and existing coalitions and partners to assess the implementation of the policy at usaid missions and implementing organizations, beginning with a strategic focus on the agency's work in haiti. Simultaneously, the organization worked to ensure that the broader aid effectiveness agenda maintained a focus on women and girls, including by providing strategic input to the draft global partnerships act, usaid's implementation and procurement reform agenda, and an appropriations strategy that has the potential to streamline and more effectively track u.s. Spending on global gender and women's issues.

Activity 3

Violence against women and girls: the organization is working to significantly prevent and reduce all forms of violence against women and girls in developing countries. The organization has worked closely with the united states government to create the first-ever multi-year united states government strategy to comprehensively prevent and address gender-based violence globally, which was released in late 2012. The organization is now working to ensure the strategy reaches millions of women and girls globally on the ground. In 2012, the organization highlighted the importance of improving u.s. Leadership to prevent and respond to gender-based violence globally through a high-level event featuring members of congress, celebrities, faith-based organizations, and woman advocates from the global south. The organization worked with a coalition of over 200 organizations to advocate for the development of the u.s. Strategy to prevent and respond to gender-based violence globally, which was released in august. Following its release, the organization shifted its advocacy to ensure that the strategy results in positive impacts for women, girls, men and boys around the world. We issued an analysis of the strategy; advocated for the reintroduction of the international violence against women act (ivawa), which seeks to codify the strategy; and met with high-level policy makers at usaid, the department of state, and the national security staff to assess progress on implementation.
