Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The mission of carson scholars fund is to recognize and reward students in grades four through eleven who have earned the highest level of academic achievement and community service by providing them with college scholarships. Emphasis is (continued on schedule o) placed on students' performance and desire to maintain a strong academic record, as well as humanistic qualities that have a positive impact on society. Carson scholars fund also provides funding to schools to build and maintain "ben carson reading rooms" - warm, inviting rooms where children can discover the joy of independent, leisure reading.

The fund recognizes and rewards promising students in grades 4-11 with scholarships to college. Students are honored, revered as role models, and prepared to be future leaders. Additionally, the ben carson reading room project creates reading rooms in elementary schools to foster leisure reading.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

"the organization has adopted fasb asc 740-10-25, accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. The organization will record a liability for uncertain tax positions when it is more likely than not that a tax position would not be sustained if examined by the taxing authority. The organization continually evaluates expiring statutes of limitations, audits, proposed settlements, changes in tax law, and new authoritative rulings. The organization's evaluation on june 30, 2019 revealed no uncertain tax positions that would have a material impact on the financial statements. The 2015 through 2017 tax years remain subject to examination by the irs. The organization does not believe that any reasonably possible changes, including penalties and interest charges, will occur within the next twelve months that will have a material impact on the financial statements."
