Mission
Global links is a not-for-profit, medical relief and development organization dedicated to supporting health improvement initiatives in resource-poor communities and promoting environmental stewardship in the u.s. Healthcare system.
Major Activities
- Activity 2
- Global links is helping the people of haiti in their on-going efforts to recover from the 2010 earthquake, and to meet the challenges of the subsequent cholera epidemic. We are working with paho/who to strengthen the country's health system beyond port-au-prince. Additionally, through an international collaboration among the governments of several countries, including haiti's ministry of health, global links directs medical aid to hospitals where haitian graduates of the latin american school of medicine (spanish acronym: elam) work alongside haitian and cuban medical staff, promoting sustainable and community-based approaches to medical relief and reconstruction. Health care professionals serving long-term in the country provide continuity and valuable experience in responding to problems confronting patients in the haitian health system. Global links provides these medical professionals with many of the materials needed to improve the quality and accessibility of health services, improving the quality of life for all haitians. Since the 2010 earthquake, we have delivered 14 sea containers of materials, 5 of which were specifically designed for cholera relief. These shipments together with hand carried donations have helped 72 institutions in haiti, serving over 2 million people.
- Activity 3
- For several years, global links has been providing material support for doctors graduating from cuba's latin american school of medicine. In exchange for for their free education, elam graduates agree to take their new skills back to underserved populations in their home countries. With dedicated grant funding, global links has equipped health centers, hospitals and maternity centers in communities where elam doctors work, often in areas that never had a medical facility before. Additionally, we have provided nearly 2,000 "medical backpacks" filled with basic primary care tools to these doctors, furnishing them with the necessary equipment to provide better medical care to their patients and encouraging the doctors to remain in their communities. This continuity of service provides the best foundation for sustainable improvements in health services and health conditions.
