Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Line 11

A copy is provided to the board to review prior to filing and any comments or changes are returned to the preparer for correction.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 12C

Thrive dc requires the responsible person having a conflict to present the conflict to the board of directors. The person is not allowed to participate in the board discussion in relation to the matter. The board examines whether the conflict actually exists and determines whether another arrangement would be more advantageous to the organization. If a more advantageous arrangement or arrangement that does not give rise to a conflict cannot be identified, then the disinterested members of the board will vote whether the transaction is in the organizations best interest, for its own benefit, and whether it is fair and reasonable. Annual disclosures of any potential conflicts are submitted to the board chair and executive director and are reviewed by the same.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 15A

Board researches executive pay scales in the nonprofit sector to determine acceptable compensation.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 19

First program continued-these grocery bags are often utilized by clients living with hiv/aids or other chronic illnesses both as a resource for nutritious foods essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and also to alleviate the economic burden of paying for healthy food and costly medication and treatments. As a part of our weekly farmers market, clients can pick from a variety of fresh and organic fruits and vegetables at no cost. In 2018, thrive dc served 146,490 meals and distributed 436,500 pounds of emergency groceries from our emergency pantry. In addition, we gave over 20,900 pounds of fresh produce away through the fresh food fridays initiative. Supplementing the nutrition programming, thrive dc also provides free showers, laundry, and critical care supplies, which are available daily. Last year thrive dc offered 4,859 showers and 1,406 free loads of laundry and distributed 50,585 critical care items. Our program not only provides our disadvantaged neighbors with life-sustaining meals and personal care supplies, but also serves as a gateway to comprehensive social services.
