Mission

The organization is formed exclusively for the benefit of, to perform the functions of, and to carry out the purposes of the Sisters of Bon Secours of the United States, Incorporated ("Sisters"),and all other publicly supported organizations in the Bon Secours Health System, by carrying out the health care mission of the Sisters in accordance with the philosophy, mission and policies of the Sisters, and in accordance with, and subject to, the directives and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

IRS990/Desc0Bon Secours, Inc. (BSI) is the sole member of Bon Secours Health System, Inc. (BSHSI). BSI functions as the parent organization to BSHSI and provides overall governance for the organization in keeping with the faith-based mission of the Sisters of Bon Secours of the United States, Inc. (Sisters). BSI's role includes the approval of BSHSI high level policies, the strategic plan, significant transactions such as mergers, joint ventures, dissolutions and governance structures of BSHSI and related organizations. The expenses of the organization relate to the costs of board meetings and education programs such as the Catholic Health Association (CHA) Ecclesiology program and the Public Juridic Person (PJP) Collaborative. These programs provide an opportunity for ministry formation; collaboration with other members of Catholic health care and provides the training needed to better understand the canonical requirements of Catholic sponsorship.Key staff members also participate in pilgrimages to Rome with the Sisters in order to participate in meetings with key Vatican agency that gives both approval and direction to the ministry in order to ensure the organization is fulfilling its purpose and mission.
