Activity 2

School programs - irvine offers fourteen high quality field trips for students ages four through college, involving hands-on observation, exploration, experimentation and animal encounters. All trips complement baltimore county public school science curriculum and msde science curriculum links. For those schools unable to visit the nature center, irvine offers seven different "nature in the classroom" programs including animal tales, predator and prey, maryland's native americans and more. Many of these informative presentations allow students to engage in hands-on learning through stations, small groups and interactive discussion.

Activity 3

Urban education - irvine's urban education program, schoolyard discovery, trains high school students to teach elementary school students about ecology in and around their schoolyard. The mission of schoolyard discovery is to inspire environmental stewardship and to develop leadership skills in baltimore city students, while improving wildlife habitat on school grounds. Through schoolyard discovery, students have the opportunity to learn about nature on their schoolyard, teach others about what they have learned, and apply this knowledge to planning and implementing schoolyard habitat improvements. Summer employment opportunities also exist for high school students.
