Marine Gas Hazards Control Program

“The Marine Gas Hazards Control Program is supported by the Marine Chemist Certification process entailing a comprehensive training program. Initial certification requires a trainee to meet extensive education, general and professional requirements. Satisfactory completion of an examination and interview with the Marine Chemist Qualification Board is required. The examination and interview include all aspects of the NFPA Standard 306, Gas Hazards Aboard Vessels and applicable regulations of the US Coast Guard and Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The program supports educational seminars to provide continuing education for Marine Chemists. The forum provide opportunities to disseminate and discuss information on current rules and regulations and provide the opportunity to exchange views on technical issues as well as interface with other professionals in the marine field. The program resulted in over 30,000 vessels being inspected. The certificates issued allowed work to be conducted and prevented unsafe conditions.”
