Mission

United planning organization's (upo) mission is to plan, coordinate & implement human services activities to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Head start and early head start provides family development services as well as child development and school readiness services, health/mental health services, nutrition services, and disabilities services to children ages zero to five. The united planning organization is required to provide services to 1,652 children ages three to five and their families, 377 infants/toddlers and their families, and pregnant women.headstart stimulus - funding awarded by department of health and human services under the american recovery and reinvestment act of 2009 for early learning mentor coach program.
Activity 3
Special emphasis programs:the temporary assistance for needy families program (tanf)- is a comprehensive program that assists individuals who receive public assistance to move toward independence by providing case management, job referrals, work assistance, educational referrals, and other transition toolsfoster grandparents program is a volunteer service program for persons 60 years of age and older. Hundreds of program volunteers serve in more than 35 educational settings in the district of columbia. Volunteers work one-to-one and in small groups with special needs children from birth to 21 years.special emphasis programs continued:the comprehensive treatment center (ctc) is an outpatient opioid treatment program that provides medically oriented treatment to opiate dependent persons six days a week. Medically oriented treatment includes assessment and treatment planning, medication management, counseling, mental health therapy, case management, and life skills services. Ctc provides medication management services to 767 different patients.
