Activity 2

Patient assistance fund - the darrell gwynn foundation operates a patient assistance fund that helps give newly injured spinal cord injury patients more hope. The program works with renown rehabilitation hospitals, such as craig hospital in englewood, colorado to assist patients with unexpected costs associated with spinal cord injuries as they recover such as medical supplies and tools needed to return home from the hospital. The patient assistance fund also donates grants to the miami project to cure paralysis' research efforts through the darrell gwynn foundation's fast track laboratory giving patients hope that someday they will walk again. In addition, the patient assistance fund supports speediatrics units at two florida hospitals helping children and families during a very difficult time.

Activity 3

Spinal cord injury research & awareness - the darrell gwynn foundation operates an education & prevention program designed to prevent spinal cord injuries before they happen. The program sends speakers in wheelchairs to high schools throughout the state of florida to share their stories about how a poor decision changed their lives forever. The presentation also includes a powerful video titled "it could happen to you". The presentations teach high schoolers, the most vulnerable age group to a spinal cord injury statistically, the dangers of texting & driving, drinking & driving, not wearing seatbelts, diving in unknown waters, playing with guns, reckless horseplay and unsafe sports techniques. The program reaches 10,000 students annually in the state of florida.
