Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Jacf funds need-based camperships to high potential youth to attend extended-stay wilderness summer camps that have a proven track record of positively impacting youth development. The foundation provides a support system to prospective campers and their families to assist in the completion of the campership and the camp applications and in preparing the camper and the camper's family for camp. We also provide a "capstone experience" that requires our applicants to complete a service project to earn their final year of funding.

Changing kids' lives through transformative summer camp experiences

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

The 990 is reviewed by the audit committee before it is filed. A copy of the 990 is provided to each trustee before it is filed.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

The policy is signed annually at the fall board of trustees meeting, or if a new trustee is brought on thereafter. At the time, anyone with a potential conflict of interest is required to discuss the potential conflict of interest with the chair of the audit committee. The audit chair determines the significance of the conflict of interest and makes a recommendation to the board about whether the trustee needs to step down or recuse himself/herself from certain issues or decisions to be made by the executive committee.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

The h.r. Committee of the board is responsible for setting the executive director's compensation. For determination of the executive director's salary, it collects comparability data from several salary surveys, including colorado non-profit association and employers council. There is a policy that the foundation compensates its executive director within a 80-120% range of the market median compensation for the position of comparable organizations. The actual salary range is then approved by the board of trustees and the actual salary is determined by the h.r. Committee.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 19

990's are posted on guidestar and coloradogives websites, and along with audited financial statements, governing documents and policies are available from the organization upon request.

Our program produces: -data-driven youth development outcomes -life and career skills known to be difficult to replicate in other settings -broad national impact through a network of high quality accredited camps and respected youth mentoring organization

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

The camp fellowship program is a leadership and career development program centered around independent employment at summer camp and aimed at recent alumni of our campership program. Each aspect of the camp fellowship program focuses on equipping the participants with critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal, and leadership skills that are highly coveted and transferrable to other educational and professional settings. The program prepares the participants for the responsibilities of working at a summer camp, and also provides mentorship opportunities that foster meaningful relationships with the younger participants of our campership and compass programs. The camp fellowship program includes a stipend that reflects the additional responsibilities required both before and during your employment at summer camp. When added to the job-related compensation received from camp, this stipend removes the financial barriers that may exist when considering a position working at summer camp by providing combined earnings that are competitive with other opportunities.

Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 2, Part V, Line 4

Endowment funds are used exclusively to fund camperships.

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

The foundation follows accounting for uncertainty in income taxes which requires the foundation to determine whether a tax position (and the related tax benefit) is more likely as not to be sustained upon examination by the applicable taxing authority, based solely on the technical merits of the position. The tax benefit to be recognized is measured as the largest amount of benefit that is greater than fifty percent likely of being realized upon settlement, presuming that the tax position is examined by the appropriate taxing authority that has full knowledge of all relevant information. During the year ended june 30, 2024, the foundation's management evaluated its tax positions to determine the existence of uncertainties, and did not note any matters that would require recognition or which may have an effect on its tax-exempt status.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0THE CAMP FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM IS A LEADERSHIP AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM CENTERED AROUND INDEPENDENT EMPLOYMENT AT SUMMER CAMP AND AIMED AT RECENT ALUMNI OF OUR CAMPERSHIP PROGRAM.
