Mission

Abilene housing, inc. Was formed and organized as a kansas not-for-profit corporation to provide housing for the low-income elderly. Frontier estates provides activities, services and programs to enrich and enhance the lives of the tenants. The environment also provides the tenants who are similar in age, companionship with others who have similar interests and experiences.

To provide housing to low income elderly persons and to provide services specifically designed to meet the physical and social living for the elderly.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 3

Abilene housing, inc. (ahi) is affiliated with memorial health systems (mhs). Ahi entered into an agreement with mhs for management services. Mhs is responsible for appointing members to ahi's board of director's. However, mhs's accountantability does not extend beyond making the appointments, and they make no appropriations to ahi. Ahi and frontier estates project pay a management fee to memorial health systems on a contractual basis for the management of ahi's operations.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

The form 990 is prepared by a cpa firm hired by the organization after the audited financial statements are completed by the same independent cpa firm. A draft of the form 990 is sent to the executive director and management for their review. Once all questions have been resolved, the form 8879 is signed by the executive director giving permission to electronically file the form 990 with the appropriate agency.

The organization gives out the personnel policy to all employees, which includes the conflict of interest policy. There is no formal monitoring process, however because of the size of the organization and the nature of the business. Management is aware of any potential conflicts of interest and are able to enforce compliance in a timely manner.

Also all documents, form 990, financial statements, etc are available upon request by sending a request to management of the agency who then determines if the documents can or will be made public. One volunteer helps serve and clean up for monthly resident dinners. Schick program volunteer helps residents figure out which insurance rx program works best for them. The other volunteers are residents and help or lead the following activities: exercise, sunday chapel service, bingo callers and prize shoppers, weekend trash duty, and delivering newspapers to residents apartments.

Frontier estates: provides an independent living facility (60 apartment units) to house the low-income elderly. Funding for the low-income is provided through section 8 housing payments from the department of housing and urban development (hud).
