Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The south central kansas economic development district, inc. (sckedd) is a kansas non-profit corporation, an economic development district (edd) and a certified development company (cdc). Sckedd's designation as a edd is from the u.s. Department of commerce and the cdc designation is from the small business administration (sba). Sckedd's service area covers 14 member counties in kansas. The resources available through sckedd consist of numerous loan programs under sckedd's decision-making supervision, as well as loan programs with which we work but do not make the final lending decision. Sckedd works with other development groups throughout the district to help new and existing businesses. Our resources also reach out to programs that assist our cities and counties with community improvement, housing, and urgent need. Sckedd has grants to assist low income persons in making their homes more energy efficient.

We are a non-profit organization that brings together communities to advocate economic growth. We work to improve the quality of life for those who live within our designated 14-county area. We take action by providing several grant and loan opportunites to programs that help us reach these goals.

The organization is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and a similar provision of state law. It has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under section 509(c)(2) of the internal revenue code. The organization files a federal information return (form 990) which includes information about its operations and exempt activities. It is the opinion of management that the organization has not engaged in activities that would generate unrelated business taxable income, and accordingly it has not filed federal or kansas income tax returns for the year ended june 30, 2014. The federal and kansas information returns of the organization for 2013, 2012, and 2011 are subject to examination by the irs and state taxing authorities, generally for three years after they were filed. It is the organization's policy that penalties and interest assessed by income taxing authorities, if any, are included in operating expenses.
