Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To empower and equip our community's most vulnerable children by providing a safe environment, educational support, and career readiness, in collaboration with families and community partners. Our vision is that all children will have loving and stable families and a nurturing community empowering them to lead successful lives. Cydc provides prevention and intervention services for children in charleston, berkeley and dorchester counties who are at risk for or who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. Services are based out of cydc's 16 acre campus in north charleston, sc and 30+ acre campus known as the callen-lacey center for children in moncks corner, sc.

Form 990, part iii, line 4a - first accomplishment these programs include four residential care facilities that provide temporary and/or long-term care for children and youth suffering from the impact of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. - foster/group home - independent living preparation foster/group homes landmarks for families operates four residential care facilities, which provide temporary and/or long-term care for children suffering from the impact of emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse and neglect. These programs take place in homelike, holistic settings that are ingrained with the philosophy of the teaching family model. Landmarks for families provides a safe and healthy environment for children to live in, as well as significant assessment and support services designed to address each child's individual educational, emotional, physical, and social needs. In close partnership with the south carolina department of social services (dss) and other partner organizations, landmarks for families works to achieve the goals of each child's permanency plan. The length of stay ranges from a few days to a few years dependent on the individual youth's circumstances. While we strive to provide a supportive, comfortable, and homelike environment, we are always working towards connecting the youth in our care to their loved ones and support systems when possible. Three of the cottages, the charleston emergency shelter (ces), the ledford house, and the callen-lacey center for children (cclc) can house children ages 0-21. The fourth cottage, nu house, provides transition services to foster youth ages 17-21. Eligibility: - may be referred by the department of social services (dss), department of juvenile justice (djj), other social service agencies or by private families and organizations. - landmarks for families is licensed to accept children ages 0-21. Independent living program nuhouse is a residential program located on landmarks for families' north charleston campus, providing transitional housing for youth aging out of foster care. Young adults ranging in age from 17 to 21 years old live in a supportive environment that focuses on helping them transition, with skills and confidence, to living independently. Residents are assisted with skill building and goal planning tailored to their individual needs. Youth are expected to actively work towards educational pursuits, employability and personal growth goals with the help, guidance, and support of program staff. Eligibility: - may be referred by the department of social services (dss), department of juvenile justice (djj), other social service agencies or by private families and organizations. - landmarks for families is licensed to accept children ages 17-21. - once living in nuhouse, residents must meet the following requirements: o work toward continued education (ged, finishing high school, or college) o learn independent living skills o be employed in some capacity (part-time employment, full-time employment, internships, or sc works workshops) form 990, part iii, line 4b - second accomplishment family preservation family-centered community support services: in partnership with a statewide network of providers and the department of social services, landmarks for families offers family centered community support services (fccss) to help strengthen families through proactive, prevention services. Fccss offers an enhanced case management program and a comprehensive array of concrete services to help address conditions that affect a family's stability and well-being such as lack of resources, relational issues, parenting needs, educational challenges, and other barriers families face during times of stress.
