Mission

UHRP works to promote the preservation and flourishing of a rich, humanistic and diverse Uyghur culture and to support the right of the Uyghur people to use peaceful, democratic means to determine their own political future.

The uyghur human rights project is a human rights research, reporting and advocacy organization. Uhrp's mission is to promote human rights and democracy for the uyghur people and to raise awareness of human rights abuses that occur in east turkestan.

IN 2019, UHRP'S RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY HAD A STRONG FOCUS ON THE ISSUE OF THE SYSTEMATIC REPRESSION OF UYGHUR INTELLECTUALS, PRODUCING THREE REPORTS DOCUMENTING CASES OF DETENTION AND DISAPPEARANCE OF THESE INDIVIDUALS. UHRP IS ENGAGED WITH STUDENT GROUPS ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES IN THE US AND AROUND THE WORLD, AND HAS RECEIVED AN UNPRECEDENTED AMOUNT OF INTEREST AMONG STUDENTS BEGINNING IN 2019. UHRP FIELDS FREQUENT INQUIRIES FROM JOURNALISTS, ACADEMICS AND CIVIL SOCIETY GROUPS, ENSURING THAT A UYGHUR VOICE REPRESENTING THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF CREDIBILITY IN HUMAN RIGHTS DOCUMENTATION IS AT THE CENTER OF RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY OF UYGHUR ISSUES. UHRP HAS BEEN A LEADING UYGHUR VOICE IN MOBILIZING COALITIONS AROUND ISSUES OF FORCED LABOR, RELIGIOUS FREEDOM AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN CHINA. UHRP DEVELOPED STRATEGIC PLANS FOR ADVANCING ITS GLOBAL ADVOCACY WORK, INCLUDING FACILITATING GREATER PROMINENCE AND IMPACT OF UYGHUR VOICES IN SOUTHEAST ASIA AND CENTRAL ASIA. UHRP HELPS AS MANY INDIVIDUALS REACH SAFETY AS POSSIBLE, INCLUDING BY PROVIDING MATERIAL SUPPORT. UHRP ALSO PROVIDES SUPPORT TO UYGHUR ASYLUM SEEKERS IN THE UNITED STATES AND ELSEWHERE, HELPING THEM GET ESTABLISHED IN THE US AND ACCESS LEGAL AND MEDICAL RESOURCES. IN 2019, UHRP LAID THE GROUNDWORK FOR ITS UYGHUR WELLNESS INITIATIVE (UWI) DESIGNED TO ADDRESS THE DESPERATE NEED FOR COMMUNITY-BASED AND PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE TO HELP THE UYGHUR DIASPORA SURVIVE THEIR ONGOING TRAUMA.
