Mission

The Cantinas Foundation is a non-profit foundation that exists to transform our modern day culture through opportunities where God can be magnified through the Arts and to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Cantinas Foundation was created to be an outreach arts ministry with the purpose of development of Christian leaders through dynamic performances, inspirational concerts, exciting workshops and retreats, artist development, and community service opportunities.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11B

Form 990 is prepared by an independent CPA firm and reviewed in detail by the President and Chief Operating Officer. The reviewed 990 is then provided to the Foundation's board of directors before it is filed with the IRS. The board of directors were instructed to provide questions, comments and concerns to the individual signing the return.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12C

The Foundation has a written policy where the board of directors and officers disclose any conflicts of interest at the time of completion. The disclosures are completed and signed on an annual basis. The Board, as a whole, collects and reviews the annual disclosures and is also responsible for determining whether an actual conflict exists. Should any potential conflicts of interest be disclosed, the board member or officer would be asked to refrain from participation in any deliberation or decision with regard to matters affected by the relationship.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15B

Line 15a - The organization does not compensate the executive director. Therefore, this line was answered no in accordance with the instructions.. Line 15b - The Board of Directors initiated an outside HR service to evaluate a benchmarking for all employee salaries and determined the compensation and benefits. The Board of Directors determines compensation and benefits for the COO based on the data collected and yearly review. The results are documented in the COO's personnel file.

In 2017, the Foundation's National Rising Artist Worship Song Contest received hundreds of original compositions from across the globe during its two-month submission window, with a prize package that included a VIP red carpet experience at the Dove Awards, a Nashville showcase for industry executives, scheduled performances across the country, professional recording and music videos to launch each of the 3 winning artists. The Foundation also sponsored the Cantinas Night of Faith in Paso Robles, CA, where 5,000 concert attendees witnessed over 40 Cantinas Artists in a unique, unifying evening of worship and the arts on the Central Coast.

In addition to private rentals, the Foundation hosted 6 Christian concerts in 2017--all free and open to the public--featuring musicians from various congregations in the area, to unify the Christian community and celebrate the arts in Paso Robles. The Foundation spent 2017 preparing the lakeside portion of the property into a state-of-the-art campground and hosted potential donors, contractors, community influencers and artists at the camp to gear up for first overnight retreats, workshops and getaways of 2018.

Events included master classes, assemblies and performances in conjunction with various schools, churches and ministries. The Foundation also provided weekly after-school arts programming for low-income and inner-city students through the establishment of the Cantinas Dance Club at Cloud & Fire, a partner organization in California's Inland Empire. Due to the school's limited arts funding, the Foundation's Master Teachers stepped in to create programming and provide dance and music training to the student body.

The disclosures are completed and signed on an annual basis. The Board, as a whole, collects and reviews the annual disclosures and is also responsible for determining whether an actual conflict exists. Should any potential conflicts of interest be disclosed, the board member or officer would be asked to refrain from participation in any deliberation or decision with regard to matters affected by the relationship.
