Montana free press seeks to uncover the truth and bring to light important news stories by studying arcane bureaucratic processes, digging into data and documents, and educating the public about the activities of individuals and institutions that impact the state. Our news coverage spans montana with an emphasis on government, politics, natural resources, energy, social justice, health care and the environment. We work independently and in collaboration with other news outlets around montana to produce meaningful news stories that have an impact on the lives and livelihoods of individuals and communities, and we provide our reporting to the public at no charge.

Montana free press is an independent, nonprofit, reader-supported newsroom thatprovides high quality, in-depth and data-informed news, information, and analysis toall free of charge.we believe that public service journalism has the capacity to catalyze positivesocial change because we believe free access to information is the tinder to igniteaction.
