Mission

Mt. Ascutney Outdoors, Inc. develops, manages and protects the recreational, educational and environmental assets of the Town of West Windsor and adjacent land on Mt. Ascutney. Affordable, year-round access is provided for the public. The town's property is subject to a conservation easement which balances the value of the distinctive ecological property with designated special areas for recreation and the promotion of community activities and vitality.

The Organization's mission is to manage, develop and protect the recreational, educational and environmental assets on Mount Ascutney for the benefit of the entire community.

The Organization's conflict of interest policy requires board members to disclose actual or perceived conflicts of interest to the chairman of the board of directors and the ex-officio representative of the Town of West Windsor. Following disclosure of an actual or perceived conflict of interest, other officials are given an opportunity to ask questions or make comments. The Organization may take evidence pertaining to the conflict and, if appropriate, adjourn to an executive session to address the conflict. After taking the aforementioned actions, a decision is reached regarding whether the board member is able to act fairly, objectively, and in the best interest of the Organization or whether the board member should recuse him or herself from the matter.

IRS990/Desc0Ascutney Outdoors Center - A key component of the Organization's strategic plan is the establishment of an outdoor center to be used for community events, gatherings and four-season recreational activities. The envisioned building will be energy-efficient and low maintenance with about 2,500 square feet of public space. The cost of this new center will be funded primarily by capital campaign donations. During the year ended April 30, 2017, the Organization took a number of steps towards achieving this goal, including: (1) launching the first phase of the capital campaign; (2) purchasing and remediating the building site; and (3) initiating planning discussions with engineers, architects and others.

Following disclosure of an actual or perceived conflict of interest, other officials are given an opportunity to ask questions or make comments. The Organization may take evidence pertaining to the conflict and, if appropriate, adjourn to an executive session to address the conflict. After taking the aforementioned actions, a decision is reached regarding whether the board member is able to act fairly, objectively, and in the best interest of the Organization or whether the board member should recuse him or herself from the matter.
