| Our Mission-Sharing the experience of God's transforming love with weary & hurting people through compassionate fellowship & life instruction. Part III Line 28-Peer to Peer living. Affordable, sober, & structured housing for people to reside while breaking the cycle of addiction. In 2020 11 men were served through the Peer Project. 2 Men commenced the 1 year program successfully & are still sober today. Each of these men are working, paying their bills, & living their new life in recovery building a firm foundation in every aspect of their lives. One of the men came to Common Recovery after doing 20 years in prison & at first he wasn't sure about committing to the 1 year program, but quickly realized the benefit & began to set goals & accomplish them. He was determined to reestablish his life in society & work hard to do what is right. He has been an inspiration & a great example for the other men to follow. Today, even though he's not doing his dream job yet, he is at peace & is alcohol/drug free. Every day he walks with God & works vigilantly at growing spiritually. He ended up spending not just one year, but two. The 2nd man that commenced the Peer Project is happy, hard working, learning new skills, & just enjoying his recovered life. He is still alcohol/drug free & has peace today. He has reestablished his relationships with family & and is building new ones with friends. Every day he works on growing spiritually & keeping himself physically & mentally fit. Heroin was his drug of choice & he is free without any other drugs such as suboxone or methadone, today he relies on God not substance. It is very encouraging to us & newcomers to see their peers live out their recovery & enjoying this new life. When new people come into Common Recovery they look upon the wall of plaques hanging there with the pictures of the people who have commenced the Peer Project Program. They are inspired to see the successes & even recognize some of the faces. They want to see their pictures on the wall too. The most rewarding aspect of this ministry is to see peoples lives changed for the better. Feeling hopeless, beat down, unwanted & desperate for the madness to end, they find that after a few short months for those that are willing to follow instructions most of them begin to change. They start to smile, stand up a little taller, recognize how valuable they are, & look you in the eyes when talking to you. Many who are willing, open, & honest discover a whole new way of life. They are growing spiritually, they have peace, they are happy, they are sober, & they are recovered. The changes that these people under go is so profound that often times people ask what happened to----? They become a source of light for the newcomers because they want to give back & they want others to receive what they got. You see they are most qualified to help, because they know. All Participants who come into the Peer Project are given clean linens, which includes towels, sheets, & blankets, also a clean bed, dresser, & closet for their personal use. Internet, cable TV, a full kitchen, laundry facilities, heat/AC, & bathrooms are all available to them & everything needed to live in a house comfortably. All these things are provided at no extra cost. The Peer Project gives these men a place to live as they break the cycle of addiction. It allows them to be in society, but also in is a structured environment as they move into recovery. They are required to remain sober, attend classes & functions, meet with a caseworker, do chores, & become productive citizens in the community. They also are required to get a job & pay weekly fees. Food, clothing, & personal hygiene items are the only things that they need to provide for themselves. Common Recovery has helped provide these things as necessary when someone first comes into the program. | $0 | $30,575 |
| Common Solution Recovery (CSR) Every Thursday, we hold an educational course in 5 week segments that runs consecutively. We present the definition of the problem, the solution, & the action required to fully recover from addiction & have a new life. This class is not limited to people in the Peer Project, but also is available for any man or woman who is struggling with alcohol/drug addiction & wants to stop. This year in 2020 we were able to hold 6 complete 5 week sessions, in which we had 207 participants, of those that attended, 20 were awarded certificates of completion. Two of these CSR courses were presented by the Alumni Peers. They are working the steps & living in recovery, once desperate & broken themselves, now recovered want to give back & help the newcomer. It is always beneficial for the newcomer to see the ones that have gone on before. The consumer has become a provider, not only for the benefit for the new people coming in, but also for themselves, because you can't keep it unless you give it away. Normally the number of participants is larger, but due to COVID pandemic we are not able to take this message into the jail & other institutions at this time. Spiritual Growth (SG) Every Tuesday we hold a group to discuss spiritual principles using the bible & other christian books. It is a meeting for people to share openly, a place where they can feel welcome & have sense of belonging. This is a place where people can grow both spiritually & morally. The people that come are not faced with judgement, but are accepted, loved, & have opportunity to build real friendships. In 2020 we went through 6 different studies & our attendance was 167 participants. Again our numbers are usually higher, but due to the pandemic, we were not able to hold as many of these groups as we normally do. We continue to serve our community through our services as best as we can through the COVID pandemic. It has been of paramount importance to us to provide a safe, clean, sterilized environment for the people that come to us for help. We have installed germicidal lighting, provide safe social distancing seating, & practice sanitation processes before & after every meeting. These things were a little expensive, but a great investment to keep people safe. Saturday Night Life (SNL)(church services) Every Saturday we have church, this includes a time of worship, testimony, intercessory prayer, fellowship break, & a word from the bible. We offer a welcoming environment that gives people a chance to go to church who wouldn't ordinarily attend church because they don't think they are good enough or that they wouldn't be accepted. SNL services are open to all not just those dealing with alcohol/drug addiction. We are a church that says come as you are and we mean it, come receive the love of Christ. No dress code, all we ask is that people wear clothes. We don't care if people are covered in tattoos, have bright colored hair, or piercings, the point is we want people to feel welcome & have a place to freely worship & belong. Church at Common Recovery is a place that people receive love & acceptance. In 2020 150 people attended. | $0 | $16,513 |
| Transportation- This is another way that we work to accomplish our mission in serving the people that come to Common Recovery. Often times the people that come to us have many needs, one particular need is to be able to get around. Most don't have drivers licenses at first or can't afford a vehicle to drive themselves, that's why this part of our ministry is so valuable & needed. People that are trying to get their lives back in order and rebuild have many places that they need to get to such as court, probation, the store, classes & functions, AA meetings, doctors appointments, volunteering opportunities, even field trips, & some a ride when they get out of jail to come to Common Recovery. Whatever the reason or cause we try to meet the people where they're at, by providing as much as we can so that they can be successful as they begin to live their life in recovery. | $0 | $3,912 |
