Helping military community learn software development
| Description | Grants | Expenses |
|---|---|---|
| Operation Code's welcoming community for veterans, military spouses and family members is at the heart of its success in providing transformative opportunities for those with an interest in entering the software engineering profession. The community grew by 200 people per month, reaching more than 3,200 by year's end. More than 2,100 benefited from their participation in Operation Code's online community, in person chapter meetups, scholarships, mentorships, software coding boot camps, and open source coding projects. | $0 | $12,437 |
| Operation Code continues to invest in its communication function for the purpose of creating greater awareness of the need to create new opportunities for veterans in the tech industry. In 2017, Operation Code launched its first annual benefit and auction in Portland, which educated hundreds of people and a dozen companies about its mission. | $0 | $6,056 |
| Operation Code's policy function focuses on ways to help the military community contribute to the nation's technology industry by finding new and fulfilling careers in software development, including creating additional opportunities for veterans to use their GI Benefits to code school. In 2017, Operation Code built new alliances with other nonprofit organizations pursuing similar initiatives in Washington DC, continued its work with members of Congress and staff to increase veteran access to careers in the technology industry. In addition, Operation Code continued to work with code schools across the country to improve their understanding of and approach to meeting the need of the military community. | $0 | $4,721 |
| Operation Code's technology function goal is to support the community by providing a technology platform that enables and fosters community, learning and the transitioning of new members to coding careers. In 2017, we implemented an admin dashboard that allows staff access to things like membership data. This was a huge step to streamlining our access to membership data. We also redesigned the front page of our website to highlight video, joining, and donation opportunities - which has expanded our outreach, and made it much easier for people visiting our site to find what is important very quickly. | $0 | $4,104 |
