Transit Books is a nonprofit publisher of international and American literature, based in Oakland, California. We're committed to the discovery and promotion of enduring works that carry readers across borders and communities.

Transit Books launched its publishing program in 2017, publishing four books four books from three continents, introducing readers to the work of Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi (Uganda), Andrs Barba (Spain), Carlos Yushimito (Peru), and Wioletta Greg (Poland). Swallowing Mercury, Gregs debut novel, was longlisted for the prestigious Man Booker International Prize; Barbas Such Small Hands was a Guardian Book of the Year; and Publishers Weekly named Makumbis Kintu one of the 25 best books of 2017. Transit Books also organized fifteen events with its international authors and local writers, including Anthony Marra, Sarah Ladipo Manyika, and Yiyun Li, bringing critical conversations on everything from migration and memory to the politics of African literature to festivals, universities, museums, and bookstores around the country. Transit titles received rave reviews in The Atlantic, The New York Review of Books, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Financial Times, the Guardian, and more.$100,886-
