Additional Explanations

Tax Period and Accounting Period Explanation

The 2016 tax year is the first tax return completed by mRelief. The Organization had previously elected to be fiscally sponsored by GoodCity NFP, an Illinois 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. In this capacity, the Organizations funding was provided to GoodCity NFP as the Organization was not previously a tax-exempt organization recognized by the IRS. The split-interest agreement was dated July 1, 2015 and extended through February 28, 2017. On February 28, 2017, the agreement expired and the Organization formally split from its fiscal sponsor, and the corpus of the split-interest was transferred to the Organization. The total split-interest transfer from the fiscal sponsor amounts to $365,234. Hence, the operations included in the 2016 tax year reflect only the operations from February 28, 2017 - June 30, 2017.

The Organization had previously elected to be fiscally sponsored by GoodCity NFP, an Illinois 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. In this capacity, the Organizations funding was provided to GoodCity NFP as the Organization was not previously a tax-exempt organization recognized by the IRS. The split-interest agreement was dated July 1, 2015 and extended through February 28, 2017. On February 28, 2017, the agreement expired and the Organization formally split from its fiscal sponsor, and the corpus of the split-interest was transferred to the Organization. The total split-interest transfer from the fiscal sponsor amounts to $365,234. Hence, the operations included in the 2016 tax year reflect only the operations from February 28, 2017 - June 30, 2017.
