IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt0The ACPS grants provided funding for numerous programs throughout ACPS schools, including bicycles in the Schools, SPLASH swim program, Circus Club, Brain Boosts in Reading Programs, Giant Games, Pedals and Pages Bicycle Cafe, Crossfit, and others that get kids moving to spark academic learning.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt1This grant provided funding for an after school soccer league at a Title I school in the Spring of 2018. ASA lined soccer fields, brought goals and equipment, provided professional coaches and supplied a jersey to every player. As participants in the league, kids were provided a healthy snack and played soccer for a full hour before heading home on transportation provided.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt2This grant provided funding for Sympatico. Sympatico is a music education initiative that operates as a partnership between the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra and ACPS. The mission of Sympatico is to provide high quality and accessible music education to the youth of Alexandria. Currently, Sympatico serves 100 students at John Adams Elementary School. These students receive music instruction for an extra hour before or after school, five days per week, throughout the school year. Making music is a physical activity. Performing and practicing a musical skill requires endurance, muscle control, strength, and flexibility.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt3The grant established the Move2Learn Book Buddies (BB) pilot program. The emphasis was on adding 2-3 minutes of exercise to the first grade structured, one-on-one tutoring sessions.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt4To support CFNC's Health and Wellness Program which combats obesity, encourages movement, and promotes healthy lifestyles to improve low-income preschool children's ability to learn.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt5The objective of the CIS of NOVA Healthy Hammond Initiative is to stimulate students' desire and ability to learn through creating cost effective opportunities for them to engage in more physical activity during, and after, the school day. In addition to the goal of increasing students' overall health, the programs proposed, including a garden, an after school soccer and yoga program, and a school-wide health fair and fun run, will provide incentive for students to come to school, stay focused, and engage in positive behavior.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt6Offers movement (hiking, camp games) programs to children of all ages during the school year, after school, at Spring Break and over the summer. They serve about 1,000 students per semester as school groups learning about nature and hiking during field trips. They also offer 28 summer camps that serve 400+ students using movement, hiking, and outdoor play to learn about a variety of nature-based topics. The Art and Nature program emphasizes drawing, nature observation, dance, movement based learning and hiking (1-2 miles daily) through forest and wetland habitats.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt7To support the mission that all local girls have access to high quality youth development programming through GOTR and specifically to increase access to the program in underserved communities.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt8The grant provided students with a program of movement and theater exercises that incorporate health and fitness activities, encourage creativity, and stimulate collaborative interaction. The process-oriented sessions emphasize teamwork, the accumulation of skills over time and the mastery of basic movement concepts. The activities include locomotor movement such as running, galloping, sliding, skipping, hopping, jumping and combining these to increase coordination and strength. Personal/general space explorations include axial movement explored independently and with other class members such Shape-Chains, mirroring, follow-the-leader and partnering or other expressive movement activities that encourage creativity.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt9Local Motion Project brings meaningful dance education to Alexandria by providing a holistic approach to dance education, they expose our community to the social, emotional, mental, and physical benefits of dance. They engage students in learning environments in which they collaborate, communicate, and develop their creative voices and dance technique side-by-side. They use dance to teach skills that extend beyond the classroom, and to create connections to our community and the world at large.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt10The grant provided funding to increasing the physical activity for 49 students, as a means of increasing academic focus, and also respecting the whole child development. Currently, the first 30 minutes of the LINK Club program are devoted to snack and independent work/play while the program teachers (who work full-time as teachers in ACPS schools) commute to the center. We would like to provide activities and resources for more movement during those first 30 minutes, as well as options for the remainder 2.5 hours the students are part of the program each evening. PKMoves provided parkour training for the students.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt11The grant provided funding for two integrated classroom projects, both utilizing tango dance and music and both culminating in public performances. Tango & Soccer is a 2-week program offered as an ""enrichment"" class during Tucker Elementary School's spring intersession (all intersession classes are considered enrichment.) Runningbrooke funding provided three teachers for day intersession for 5 days The grant also provided funding for QuinTango to teach a section of the World dance class at TC Williams in Spring 2018. It provided two dance instructors for six 75-minute classes of 25 students each.

IRS990ScheduleI/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Running Brooke gives priority to nonprofit organizations that serve children in the City of Alexandria and are at-risk and underserved. To make the greatest impact possible, we consider programs that meet the following criteria: 1) Use exercise and/or movement before, during or after school to activate children's brains to improve scholastic performance. 2) Have articulated measurable outcomes consistent with our focus area. While we prioritize application from organizations who meet the above criteria, consideration will also be given to other groups and movement programs whose outcomes are measured by an increase in positive attitude, focus, and confidence. Grant requests are considered by a panel of judges based on the above criteria. The grant monies are to be used exclusively for the purpose stated in the proposal, and recipients must be willing to schedule site visits with RunningBrooke representatives. Midterm reports are due on July 15th. Final reports are due by December 31st. All reports, receipts and records are securely kept at the Running Brooke office.
