“All about autism's community connection point booths at local attractions (e.g. Zoo, ballparks, expo) provide education at designated outreach initiatives. Sensory friendly break areas for individuals on the autism spectrum are included at some of the larger events. Offerings include: - sharing handouts to our portal with helpful hints - face-to-face referrals providing families with resources they can access immediately - a place for therapy, a support group, a community event, age and interest specific activity. - demonstrations of low-cost resources like noise reduction headphones, fidget toys or weighted blankets. - distribution of educational materials for social/behavioral skills, safety and active/healthy living - hands-on opportunities for one to create their own stress reducing, sensory friendly take-away toy/tool by mid-february 2017, all about autism, inc. Already had almost $25,000 in committed donations for 2017. Donors are recognizing how we are positively changing the landscape in the greater kansas city community and surrounding areas for families and individuals on the autism spectrum. Our cause is one which directly impacts the community now and will only continue to increase in the future. Most importantly, we have the opportunity to change the lives of children so when they are adults, they have a greater probability to be self-sufficient and productive community members.”
