To provide training on how to develop small-scale, sustainable farming and to train people in various groups(such as returning veterans, the handicapped, the disadvantaged, and young people just starting out in life) in the myriad of activities and skills needed to operate a small-scale farm such as animal husbandry, food production, woodlot management, marketing farm products, mechanics, post-harvest handling, food processing, food storage, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, geology, surveying, topographical mapping, computer usage, soil and water conservation, permaculture, sustainable farming practices, organic farming practices, eco-systems, aqua-culture, wildlife management, disease and pest vectors, accounting relevant to farming (such as finance, cost benefit analysis, general accounting, cost accounting, and industrial engineering methods), research and data collecting, crop rotation, irrigation, planting techniques, season extension, crop selection, rotational grazing,
