Working within corrections and in reentry and prevention, HBC creates new and unprecedented educational, artistic, and transformational opportunities, so that people are better able to live, wherever that may be, as healthy, contributing, and valued members of their communities.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization was not permitted to enter Marion Correctional Institution (MCI) to conduct in-person programs, nor was it able to collect earned revenue from its contract with the state's department of rehabilitation and corrections. The prison system was closed to volunteers and visitors as a result of the pandemic. Instead, the organization prepared educational materials and videos to share with the individuals inside MCI, and it continued its work outside of MCI to support formerly incarcerated individuals. The organization expects to be able to return to in-person education in 2021, so this is not a permanent change to operations, but rather a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization was not permitted to enter Marion Correctional Institution (MCI) to conduct in-person programs, nor was it able to collect earned revenue from its contract with the state's department of rehabilitation and corrections. The prison system was closed to volunteers and visitors as a result of the pandemic. Instead, the organization prepared educational materials and videos to share with the individuals inside MCI, and it continued its work outside of MCI to support formerly incarcerated individuals. The organization expects to be able to return to in-person education in 2021, so this is not a permanent change to operations, but rather a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
