FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Our mission is to bring about the sustained regeneration, improvement and management of the physical environment by developing community-based partnerships to promote environmental, economic and social well-being in the jacksonville, florida area. The organization is a partnership between the city of jacksonville, us national park service, us environmental protection agency and groundwork usa, inc. And is one of 21 such trusts across the country. Groundwork jacksonville is specifically charged with designing and implementing a 30-mile bicycle/pedestrain trail and linear parks system, including the ecological restoration of mccoys and hogans creeks. The emerald trail will connect 14 urban neighborhoods, including downtown, and link to 16 schools, 2 colleges and 21 parks. This infrastructure investment is being made in majority black neighborhoods where 71% of residents are low-to-moderate income and 35% live in poverty.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Green team fellows used the 7 florida-friendly landscaping principles to design and build a flower garden for a community member. Learned about how to build rain barrels and determine water soil quality, then hosted three workshops during the earth day celebration to share their knowledge with community members. In the summer, apprentices learned how to plan a hike and hiked 7 creeks trail, the newest trail in the timucuan parks system. They enjoyed kayaking the st. George river and tubing down ichetucknee spring. They also demonstrated courage and emotional maturity while working with timucuan national park rangers to improve programming for youth of color at kingsley plantation. As always, apprentices completed maintenance work on the s-line, but also helped out our partners at jacksonville arboretum, white harvest farm, and hannah park. Finally they built a hydroponic system and bat houses for the duval extension office.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

The restoration of mccoys creek is part of the larger emerald trail project. The creek has been flooding for decades and its infrastructure was not maintained. Before the implementation of environmental laws, pollutants from industries located on the north side of the creek entered the stream. The project's design takes the creek back to a natural stream, and will reduce flooding, improve water quality, and create habitat for fish and wildlife. Ecologically sensitive recreation will be added, including two large parks which are currently being designed by groundwork jacksonville. Groundwork jacksonville provided the design for the creek's restoration to the city of jacksonville (coj) and has contributed 1.2m towards the design project, receiving private donations and grants from the national fish and wildlife foundation (nfwf) and the national oceanic and atmospheric administration (noaa). As a result of our design grant with nfwf, coj secured a construction grant for 4.3m for the first phase of construction is currently underway. Groundwork jacksonville finalized the design of the mccoys creek branches restoration and is now seeking construction funding. The branches are the creek's headwaters and the trail along this segment of the creek will connect to two future trail segments. The trail design will be finalized early in 2022. Groundwork is now seeking funding to take the conceptual recreation design to completion.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0THE RESTORATION OF MCCOYS CREEK IS PART OF THE LARGER EMERALD TRAIL PROJECT.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1GREEN TEAM FELLOWS USED THE 7 FLORIDA-FRIENDLY LANDSCAPING PRINCIPLES TO DESIGN AND BUILD A FLOWER GARDEN FOR A COMMUNITY MEMBER.
