Mission: to contribute to the sustainability of marine-coastal resources and artisanal fisheries through scientific knowledge, public policy advocacy, and improved quality of life in coastal communities. Coverage: pacific and caribbean coasts of guatemala, with presence in 9 local communities and regional actions in the mesoamerican reef system and eastern pacific. Strategic plan 2025-2030: focused on three pillars: applied research for conservation. Environmental education and community development. Public awareness and policy advocacy. 2024 investment by strategy research for conservation: 51% education and community development: 27% public awareness and policy: 22% key results projects implemented: 45 scientific publications: 12 people reached through awareness campaigns: 60,958 academic scholarships granted: 29 fruit trees distributed: 4,924 marine and fisheries conservation monitoring of sharks and rays in the pacific and caribbean with over 14,800 individuals recorded in 2024. 316 hammerhead sharks tagged, with 29 recaptures. Identification of nursery areas in las lisas and sipacate. Participatory workshops with over 165 fishers trained in sustainable fishing practices. Community development formation and empowerment of ampermalis, a women-led association in las lisas. Establishment of the flor de mangle community apiary (30 beehives), led mainly by women. Strengthening of the ki'il sarstoon apiary in the caribbean, including development of a local beekeeping calendar. Sustainable tourism: first migratory bird festival in las lisas; 21 locals trained in ecotourism. Environmental education hammerhead shark route: over 400 students engaged. Launch of the shark club in las lisas and sipacate. Scholarship program: 8 active beneficiaries in primary, high school, and university levels.
