The Inner Pup

“The inner pup is a unique animal welfare organization. We focus our energy and effort into two core prevention programs, education and outreach. We believe early intervention is the best way to address animal welfare challenges.we cant adopt our way out of pet overpopulation. Shelters are necessary but we cant solve the problem by spending millions on bigger and better shelters to house (and kill) more animals. Safe and comfortable shelters should be short term solutions: education and outreach are the paths to solutions. The inner pup is committed to ending pet over-population by working in at risk neighborhoods where most of animal welfare challenges originate. We engage with and support residents in communities. We build trust with the abusers and the agents of change. We are compassionate and non judgmental, and we give out information and have discussions to fill in voids. We take advantage of the natural and positive ways children and animals form bonds, to foster great relationships. We bank on the fact that children who relate compassionately to animals will engage generously and respectfully with all living beings. Statement of program service accomplishment (part iii, line 28)low cost community clinics:the inner pup hosts monthly clinics to provide heartworm and flea/tick prevention to low income pet owners, and also offer simple vet exams and veterinary advice to clients in need. We also educate our clients on relevant animal welfare topics, including over breeding, and responsible pet ownership. At the community clinics, we hand out information about other low cost options and inform clients about our network of partners. During 2017, the inner pup treated 1,141 dogs at 13 clinics. Statement of program service accomplishment (part iii, line 29)disaster relief:the inner pup provides temporary housing for dogs displaced by floods and hurricanes. The inner pup care offers the displaced dogs the highest quality of life possible until a permanent home is found. Statement of program service accomplishment (part iii, line 30)canine youth education:the inner pup offers an interactive 3-week course. We engage children in a hands-on, fun classroom experience that interrupts the cycle of abuse and helps our students form lifelong bonds with animals. We have trained hundreds of new orleans middle school ambassadors who will touch the lives of countless dogs in their communities. Our curriculum overall goal is to create an empathetic generation.”
