“This grant is designed to build the capacity of civil society organization to advocate on behalf of victims of domestic violence(dv)and giving them stategies for raising awareness of the dv problem. It is designed to create a network of empowered dv advocacy professionals. The program will be launched with a four day conference/workshop in turkey on domestic violence, which positions this issue as a public health epidemic in the region, representing a paradigm shift on how this issue is treated in, georgia, turkey and azerbaijan. The outcome of this conference will be for participants to be empowered and equipped to work collaboratively to bring institutional awareness of dv, to be equipped and motivated to advocate for advancement of dv laws, to be able to devise plans to prevent, intervene and reduce dv, and to remain after this conference and to continue training others.”
“This grant was to conduct a five-day conference in either tbilisi georgia on domestic violence (dv) a public health epidemic in the region, bringing women from the region, georgian, azerbaijan and tajiki health and social service providers working in the dv space.these three countries have similar cultural and societal traditions, going back hundreds of years, viewing dv as a family matter. In fact, tajik and georgian advancement in recent years in adopting laws effecting dv could be helpful to other participants, particularly from rural and low sociao-economic communities, because of their cultural ties and similar societal norms. Since, the prevalence of dv is by far greater in rural communities, there will be a concerted effort to engage over 40% of rural providers in this proposition for maximum impact, by specifically raeching out to the regional health providers. This conference could feasibly bring 30 professionals from these countries together to work collaboratively to bring institutional awareness to dv, to devise palns to prevent, intervene and reduce dv regionbally by ensuring the trainers remain active, post this conference and continue training others.”
