IRS990/MissionDesc0THE MISSION OF INCOMMON COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IS TO ALLEVIATE POVERTY AT A ROOT LEVEL BY UNITING AND STRENGTHENING VULNERABLE NEIGHBORHOODS. BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THE GREATEST STRENGTH OF ANY NEIGHBORHOOD ARE THE RESIDENTS WHO CALL THESE PLACES HOME, INCOMMON IS COMMITTED TO TRANSFORMING NEIGHBORHOODS THROUGH NEIGHBORS THEMSELVES. BY BUILDING ON NEIGHBORS' STRENGTHS AND EMPOWERING NEIGHBORS TO WORK TOGETHER TO LEAD NEIGHBORHOOD CHANGE, INCOMMON IS BUILDING STRONG AND SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS WHO MIGHT OTHERWISE GROW UP UNDER THE DETRIMENTAL CONDITIONS OF POVERTY.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT 2023 WAS ANOTHER BIG YEAR FOR INCOMMON'S NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS, AS THE ORGANIZATION CELEBRATED THE GRAND OPENING OF 76-UNITS OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING, CREATING HOMES FOR 124 NEIGHBORS. THE WALNUT HILL NEIGHBORHOOD PLAN WAS APPROVED BY OMAHA'S CITY COUNCIL, AND THE OMAHA COMMUNITY LAND TRUST WAS LAUNCHED, A NEW NON-PROFIT THAT SUPPORTS HOMEOWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS. IN ADDITION, 2023 SHOWED POWERFUL RESULTS FROM INCOMMON'S LONG-TERM INVESTMENT IN PARK AVENUE: SINCE 2012, VIOLENT CRIME HAS DECREASED 11%, GRADUATION RATES HAVE INCREASED 15%, AND POVERTY HAS DECREASED BY 17%! AND IN WALNUT HILL, SINCE INCOMMON'S PRESENCE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD IN 2018, THERE HAS BEEN A 4.2% DECREASE IN POVERTY RATES, A 1.8% INCREASE IN GRADUATION RATES, AND A 16% DECREASE IN VIOLENT CRIME.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT THE GENERATIONAL IMPACT INCOMMON CELEBRATES IS DUE TO THE HARD WORK AND DEDICATION OF NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERS. INCOMMON WORKS WITH RESIDENTS OF ALL AGES TO IDENTIFY AND FOSTER LEADERSHIP SKILLS THROUGH ASSESSMENT, SURVEYS, COACHING, AND OPPORTUNITIES TO LEAD IN PROGRAMS AND IN THE BROADER COMMUNITY. IN 2023, 23 NEIGHBORS GRADUATED FROM LOCAL LEADER SCHOOL; 4 NEW NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECTS WERE CREATED AND LED BY RESIDENTS; 22 YOUTH PARTICIPATED IN A LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM, INCLUDING THE NEWLY CREATED ROVING LISTENERS SUMMER PAID INTERNSHIP PROGRAM.
